Post subject:  raymarine c80 deep founder problem
he have some one have problem with the deep founder in the c 80 . normaly i see the deep in my screen ,but when i start the boat after night at anchor the deep just script --. and when i change the page to fish finder i see ''no source ''. Nobody no how i can test the sound with meter or something ?

Make sure your DSM has power. Under the set up menu go to system diagnostics, external interfaces, fish finder. You should see the data packets between the unit and the DSM. If you see tx without rx, trace the transducer wiring.

That's where I would start.

What exactly is the DSM? Occasionally I get an error message saying it has lost its connection to it.

DSM = Depth Sounder Module........

It is the "digital sounder module" for the depth finder/fish finder. Its located behind the dash, you have to pull the Multi function disply to get to it. If yours acts like mine, it displays the lost connection message when you deploy or retrieve the anchor. The windlass is pulling the voltage down enough to cause that.

+1 on checking battery voltage. The chartplotter and related gear draw a TON of power. As does the 12v refrigerator. Do not leave any of the plotter gear turned on all night.

Yes, power is an issue. If you read the fine print in the dsm manual, the recommend turning it off. It does drain the battery anchored up. I used one of my spare ACC switches on the dash to turn it off.

Also, sounds like you are power starved. Low voltage can sure screw stuff up.

Since you are getting no Rx or Tx the issue is either the cable between the two units, lack of power or a back dsm. At least your down to a few options at should be easy to track down.
