So we get down to the boat last Thursday and my wife informs me the A/C isn't working. I figure it just tripped the breaker on the back of the boat, nope, its still in the on position. I go look at the thermostat and it has an error P5 hi pressure. I'm thinking the pump, and it has been running fine all summer, no noise no nothing. So I pull the strainer, its not perfect, but not that bad, cleaned and tried again, nothing. Bang on the pump a little and it starts spinning, very slowly. Shut it down, and pull the front of the pump off thinking maybe something got in it. That looks fine. Put it back together still nothing. Damn, it was close to 100 degrees and humid. We are doomed to spend the night with no air. after the fireworks, I tried to go to bed. I laid there for an hour cursing on how hot it was. I couldn't sleep, so I started thinking about hooking dock water up to cool the cabin down. Long story short, I borrowed a neighbors extra hose with the promise of replacing it in the morning, shut the sea cock, cut the end of the hose, pulled the impeller out of the pump, unhooked the wires from the pump, hooked the hose up to the intake of the pump, turned the water on, then the A/C, and relief, nice cool air. ran it all night like that and half the next day until I could get the new pump and install it. So if you have dock water available, you always have a spare A/C pump. ![]() |

Somewhere there's a marina manager torqued about water being wasted... Somehow with slip prices being what they are I have no sympathy. Necessity is the mother of invention, and it was mother...ing hot last week. Glad you found a quick fix. |

That is a great fix to an unfortunate problem. Could not have been a worse time to have it fail. Good job. Most marina's around here do not charge for water useage, and in this case, it certainly was not wasting water. Just an observation, and no ill will intended, but you sure have had quite a few issues (mostly minor) with a 2008 boat. Thankfully you are good at fixing things, and it has not been too bad for you. Hope the rest of the season is trouble free ! |

Hope the rest of the season is trouble free ! Cap'n, no Ill anything taken, I have been frustrated with the problems I have had, albeit minor. It is annoying at best. I have chalked it up to the inherent complexities of all the systems on a cruiser, basically have all the modern amenities of a house, except packed into a floating hull. I just dropped it at the marina this morning, I had work on the generator over the winter to try and get to the bottom of it not starting occasionally. Knock on wood if I get that figured out I will have every last "honey do" thing on my list crossed off! ![]() And if I think about it, nothing has been "wrong" with the FW portion of it. The issues I have had are from purchased components that FW has no control over other than mounting locations. So Ill just remain vigilant and I have to believe, it will settle down very soon. And on the water running, we don't get charged for water, and I had it running as low as I could and still get the cooling needed. But given the situation, I would have paid for it if I had to, it was that miserable in the cabin! |

Nice Job! yes necessity is a Mother. reminds me of long ago while in USAF stationed in Calif had to drive to Vegas and the A/C was overheating car on the long climbs over high desert, temp almost 115deg. Started bringing burlap bags and cooler full of water. hung the wet burlap in rear windows and with dry air gioing thru created a nice swamp cooler! Nice and cozy cool. Theoretically if you had a breeze you could do that on your cabin door or overhead hatch with a damp wet towel! |
