Purchased a used 06 288 Vista a little over a week ago (which we are loving) and when we unhook from shore power the refrigerator does not work. The courtesy light comes on when the door is open but the unit does not turn on. Has anyone heard of this or have any ideas where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks

Do you have the Norcold or Waeco?

It is a Waeco.

Some past posting have shown its due to a voltage drop because the wire is undersized. Have you checked the D.C. fuse to it?? Take a votage reading from the fridge as it is running or trying to run. I would download the manual on it. I think if its below 10.5V, thats your problem. I would first clean & check all the connections, which could be your loss in voltage too. Again, check the 12v D.C. fuse, it could be no power.

I have the same problem with my 2008 , i run a new cable for the ground and the positive from the fuse panel to the fridge , most short i can with cable gauge 10 . The problem is now resolve , with the original cable i have 12 volts direct on battery but when i check the voltage at fridge connection the voltage drop to around 10.4V when the compressor try start. Its verry rediculus sale a boat at that price with that kind of problem !!!!

Winns 288,
How big of a job was it to run the new cable? Did you have to pull half the boat apart?

Thank you for the response

If it was me, I would run new wires (tinned) from the engine compartment, down the port side of my boat. You may have to remove things as in trash bin, the "step" to get into the cabin. You need to be able to snake the wire from the engine compartment to the cabin. Than come off the battery and fuse it at the battery.

I am not sure were your DC fuse box is. If its like mine, its by the helm. Which is doable, but harder. Remove the fuse box, snake to the head's sink (I removed the TP holder) then to the sump pump & up to the fridge.

No matter how you do it, I would use 10/2 wire and I mount a switch on the side of the galley sink cabinet. So I can turn the D.C. power off and on with out opening the fridge.
