I went with using velcro attached covers instead. I can't recall the brand name at the moment, sun-something, but I got 'em from West Marine. They're a strip of cushioned fleece-like material with a velcro seam lengthwise. I just cut pieces to fit and wrapped then around the bimini poles to cushion the canvas and vinyl from them. Worked great. The gray color is the least visible as it's 'close enough' to the polished stainless to avoid being noticeable. That and it doesn't fade as badly as would black or blue. I used some blue to cover a spring line that would otherwise rub on the rear hull sides. Works great there too, no streaks on the hull like the line tended to leave.
