Good friends purchased a 2002 Doral 270SC two years ago. They wanted a boat just large enough that it had a dedicated aft cabin and V-berth while still having a small dinette table set up full time. They had one teenage son and they didn't want to make the dinette area up into a bed each night for their son. They also preferred to stay with a single engine boat instead of twins, so the Doral 270SC suited their needs and wants.
I went on their water test with them and found the 270SC to cruise about 25MPH and topped out right at 40 MPH with the single 5.7 litre Volvo duoprop. It handled some chopping water pretty well. They added air condiontioning and a extended swim platform to their 270SC after purchasing it.
Four winns are great boats, but I would explore all boat make and models that offer what is important to you and your family in a boat size and price that you are comfortable with so that once you purchase you remain satisfied and content with your purchase decision for years to come. Boats are expensive in more ways than one.
