Any Sundowner owners willing to part with a camper canvas that you aren't using? I'm not picky about color. I have the bimini and windshield, just need the sides and back.

Thanks!

And in the event I can't turn up anything here (I'm not very hopeful), does anyone know the OEM manufacturer for this canvas? It wasn't Great Lakes...

Thanks again.

Four Winns made a lot of canvas in house.

Thanks, firecadet. That jibes with Four Winns online parts catalog stating that it is currently an "In-house Manufactured Part". I took that to mean, sure, they would custom manufacture it for me, for a hefty cost.

That site also lets me input the hull ID to request a quote directly from a "nearby" dealer (two hours away for me: Boats by George in Lake George, NY). We'll see how that goes..

A few months ago I was looking for the side and aft curtains for my 1999 Horizon. After getting an outrageous quote to have them custom made for me locally I decided to try ordering them from my nearest dealer (over an hour away) using the part numbers in the Four Winns online catalog.

For nearly 1/4 of the price of the custom quote Four Winns made me brand new exact match side and aft curtain covers for the boat. They also shipped them directly to me from the factory. I am very satisfied with the price and quality of the covers, but one thing to note was that the factory does not attach the snaps to the covers as they do not know the exact location of the male snaps on the boat.

I received two quotes from dealers based off the FW parts catalog number, both just shy of $1,000, with delivery taking 4-5 weeks. I can't imagine a custom job costing much more, but I'll be looking into it. I wonder what the turn-around time will be for a canvas shop in the middle of the summer? And what kind of access they'd need to my boat. It is currently stored on a rack and I'd rather not have to pull it from the lake and trailer it to the shop in the middle of the season.

Thanks for the heads up on the snaps. Is the female snap installation something a DIY'er could handle? I'm assuming the area where they would be installed is reinforced to prevent pulling through.

They quoted me 4-5 weeks for mine as well but it actually only took 3 weeks. Altogher I paid around $450 for my covers from Four Winns while the local canvas shop quoted $1900 with a 8-10 week lead time. Glad I went the route i did.

Yes there is reinforcement. The entire inside edge of the covers have a nylon webbing reinforcement behind the canvas. I ended up buying a snap kit that included extra snaps and a pair of vise grip pliers with snap attachements, Similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Seasense-Canvas-Fastener-Pieces-Tools/dp/B0009PXBKM/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1372277402&sr=1-2&keywords=seasense+snap+kit

The snap kit made the installation very easy. Took maybe 30 minutes to align covers and attach ~24 female snaps.

Good Luck.

John, I got my parts info from the FW dealer site: http://parts.fwdealer.com/, but it only goes back to 1996.

You can try the dealer I used to place my order: Boats by George (Call Tom at 518-793-5452 ext. 315), but honestly I'd bet you are looking at a custom canvas job.

Thanks Matt, that's what I figured. I am thinking I might have the work done off-Cape in the off season. Anything that comes over the Cape Cod Canal onto the "island" is more $$$.
