Hey everyone, I am pretty new to boating. Looking for a four winns 170 horizon. My price is limited, so the years I think I can afford is around the 2000s. Also would be pulling it with a vehicle tow capacity of 4500lbs, so thinking the 170 is the biggest I can pull. Initially was considering a bayliner but from reading would rather have a much more reliable four winns. I do have concerns of the 170 being a lil slow? I know its winter here in Wisconsin, so might have limited variety
Anyway any info you can add would be wonderful.

Welcome to the site and good luck on your search. The Four Winns site has a lot of info for that vintage. Check www.fourwinns.com. Click on the "Owners" tab. Choose your year and model. They have product info, "Fast Facts", owners manuals, and on-line parts manuals for almost all models. Look the boat over well or have a survey or pre-buy inspection done. That boat should have been produced with a few engine choices. I always recommend leaning toward a higher horsepower option if possible.

I'd go bigger unless I was boating by myself on a relatively calm lake.

You should be able to pull a H190 on a single axle trailer just fine.

I also second getting the most horsepower you can, and also go with EFI if possible.

Also learn how to check for rotten stringers and transom as well. Try to find something garage kept, or at least kept dry.

Good luck. I found mine on Craigslist and bought it the next day. The good deals go fast, while the junk tends to sit and gets re-posted over and over.

Go newest you can afford to reduce the effects of owner neglect. You do not want to deal with rotted wood in the sub structure, or engine/drive problems. In that size I greatly prefer outboard power.
