Hello to the Four Winns Forum world,

The First Mate and I have an accepted offer to purchase this freshwater vessel. Survey and sea trial contingencies. It has the 8.1 Horizons, V-drives, 415 hours, hard top, enclosed master suite, bow thruster, FlexTeck, navigation package and USCG registered. Is there anything inherent/systemic with the vessel that we should be checking? How about performance specifications. WOT/rpm, cruising speed and mpg? Handling characteristics?

Thank you,

Captain Mark

Survey and sea trial tomorrow. Does anybody know where I can find performance specifications such as WOT rpm and mph, fuel mileage at various cruising speeds, etc....? Thanks.

Hey Mark,

Congrats on the 378 if your sea trail went well. We have the same boat, 2006 with the 8.1's. If you still have unanswered questions, ask away. It's a great boat! Jeff.

Well, the sea trail turned up some cobb webs. She started backfiring on our way to WOT, maybe 3900 rpm. The gen set (only 16 hours) started fine but began misfiring as we loaded it up. Auto pilot screen is scrambled and the nav chip is for southern lake MI and Lakes Erie and Ontario. I'm pretty sure the C80 Raymarine is obsolete and needs to be replaced. I'll need to Dawn and bleach all of the bilge compartments. Thus far the owner has not turned up the service record history, so that'll mean all new impellers, oils/filters, the basics..... I'm still waiting to get the complete survey and engine scan, but the above are the major findings.

The generator is probably just the plugs. When I bought mine it had 1.2 hours and needed new plugs. They are bad to foul under light/no load conditions.
C80 - the maps are available from Navionics. You will have to make sure you get the 2mb chip from Navionics direct (it won't read the 4mb chip). But it will hold a lot of maps. I purchased the chip and 1 year of updates for $149.00 from them. You can then load whatever maps you want.
Engine backfire - plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor should solve that.

Auto pilot - no idea.

Thanks for the input. Hope you are correct with the diagnosis. I'm being told by the Raymarine folks that the auto pilot is junk. Regarding the C80 - the Navionics chip advice is great. I also noted that it would not go into a fish finder mode. More diagnostics required. Do you have that mode available. Thx.

Sorry, I misspoke on the GPS. The C80 may be different than the one I have and discussed about the 2mb chip. I suggest looking at navionics website and calling them to verify.
