Today I paid down on a 2005 268 Vista. It only has 23 hours and is mint. The engine is the Volvo 280 horse power. The boat is a little over 6000lbs. This I beleive is the standard engine for this boat but is it enough motor and what can I expect for performance. Thanks in advance for any info. |

Sure, the big block would be nice - but that's not a common motor for the 268's. The 280 volvo is pretty much the exact same as the 300hp version today. It's considered a 'strong' motor. Bigger question would be to make sure that boat has the duoprop on it. Other than that - post some pics and tell us more about it! Sounds fantastic! |

Check the Four Winns Fast Facts for performance data. Our 268 had the same engine with DP. Never a problem with enough power on that boat. |

Thanks for lastest info. The boat does have the double props and even though it's not exspected to be a go fast boat, as long as it gets out of the water O.K. with 6-7 adults on board and has a top end of around 42-44 with 4 people on board I'll be satisfied. The current owner is saying mid 40s I'm not so sure but that would be good. I have also heard that engine is easy on the pocket book for fuel and repairs so I can give up a little speed. |

There's alot of factors on speed vs weight as we all know. The 280hp won't be a speed demon, but I don't think you'll be disappointed. I wouldn't worry about top end of the boat - pay attention as to how she gets up and out of the water. My 318 peaks out at 45-47(with a little push from the wind). However, you would crap at the fuel bill for going anywhere near that fast for any extended period of time. Don't worry about the motor - sounds like that boat has a good setup. Go for it! where's the pics? ![]() |

Don't count on 42-44 mph with 4 people on board very often. Flat lake, perfectly clean hull, slight tail wind, you may get 42 mph a few times, but not regularly. You should not be concerned about top speed if you are buying a cruiser, if you are, you are looking at the wrong style boat. |
