Fire, that will take up some valuable space on your 268 and have it be out of the way. Stowed dimensions = 3'4"x1'10"x18" Maybe inflated on the bow would be better ? Price seems reasonable though.

I did hang this boat from my transom of my 258. It was a bit too big, but I just hung the tubes beyond one side.

It was not ideal but it did work.

When docking I always dropped it and tied it very close to the swim platform

Seeing a 9.8 on the back puts it out for me. I'm looking for something small that a 3.5hp can push.

I understand, but for the record a 3.5 will not be pushing much of anything! LOL

Our previous inflatable was a 8.5' with a 3.5 hp and it did not last us long! We outgrew it very quickly!

So true. Even 1 person in an 8.5 with a 3.5 gets nowhere slow, very slow. It won't even think of planing with that small an engine. 5.0 is minimum if you have any more than yourself and a 6 year old in the dinghy. You would be better off rowing. :D

How would you handle fuel storage for an outboard dinghy motor on that small of a boat?

Sorry for the side track....

On my 10' Mercury there is an area under neath the seat that has two rings. The gas tank fits under there and is held in with a bungy or strap.

Attached is a picture showing the location of the 3 gallon fuel tank we used.

This was the 8.5' we had previously on the back of our 258. I looked but I do not have any pics of the 10' on the 258.

We have a Honda 2 hp 4 stroke outboard engine and a 9.9 hp 2 stroke Johnson outboard engine. The 9.9 hp is more fun to use on our inflatable because it will easily plane with my wife, son and I on our 310 Mercury Inflatable, but we use the Honda 2 hp with our inflatable more often.

When we travel on vacations the 2 hp (28 lbs) is much easier to put on and take off the inflatable. The 2 hp will easiely push our inflatable with the three of us in it (even against the strong St.Clair river current) for all the places we like to cruise around.

A 5 hp may be the best overall compromise and if I was looking at purchasing just one engine for our inflatable I probably would go with a 5hp.

If I had to choose between the 9.9 or 2 hp I may just go with the 2 hp, especially if you are taking the engine off frequently. Most of the time we are sight seeing thru marinas or down various cuts were we can not plane anyways.

I will take the 9.9 hp with us when I will be leaving the 9.9hp on the back of our inflatable for a couple of days and plan to travel some distance. We use our inflatable quite a bit.

I am sorry to disagree.

But my opinion, its easier to go slow in a bigger hp motor than it is to go fast with low hp motor.

I take mine on and off the boat almost daily as I do not like to leve it in the water over night. My motor weighs around 65 lbs and its a breeze for me!

No problem Ken, I can't disagree with your comment of "But my opinion, its easier to go slow in a bigger hp motor than it is to go fast with low hp motor."

I like the Mercury inflatables. I have bought a used 280 Quicksilver inflatable, a new 280 Mercury inflatable and a new 310 Mercury inflatable over the years.

Your 310 will be a good inflatable for somebody. Anyone interested in purchasing a used inflatable should be aware of the benefits of Mercury' s bow up design and the new design of their end cones starting in the year of your inflatable that you have for sale, see this quote......."The end cone design, its flat endcone in the 2003 and newer models. When you see a typical inflatable accelerate it does a pop-a-wheeley. Well with the flat end cone when the front of the boat lifts up it pushes the cone into the water and causes instant plaining off."

When we do dingy runs with other boaters I can attest that I like having our 310 inflatable bow high design as it keeps us drier than other inflatables and that the end cone design does let us get up on plane quick without having the bow raise high. I also feel the end cone design lets you maintain planning easier without falling off plane if you are slowing down a bit due to rough conditions.

Our 9.9 hp is about 80 lbs and I find that weight is a bit of a struggle when you try to not mark up your inflatable transom or your boats swim platform while taking it on off. Running with the 9.9hp on though, does make up for most of the struggle. :)

You shouldn't have much trouble selling your 310 Inflatable. I just wanted to let anyone interested in your inflatable that I
would have no reservations using a Honda 2 hp or similar engine with a 310 Inflatable. If you don't need to plane the little 2 hp should still push you around comfortably up to around 5 MPH.

Good luck with your sale.

Mike.

Same reasons we purchased ours Mike!

Bow flar and cone design!

We really like it, but we have kids around that we want start doing some tubing with so I purchased a full fiberglass hull and transom boat to accomondate the weight of a tuber on the transom.

Thats the only reason for selling!
