Post subject: | how much to pay for a 268 vista |
Hi guys ,I just joined up,Im from New Zealand and have just started looking at buying a 268 ,but in NZ they are wayyy to expensive,Ive imported a seaswirl striper in the past and it worked out great ,this time I want a nice 268 ,but not sure how much I will need to spend,I would like a nice tidy one ,not interested in scruffy boats,I would also like a radar arch, but not worried about a trailer, can anyone reccomend which engine is best and what sort of gph I should expect to burn on the 5.0, 5.7 or 7.4.I like the idea of the 7.4 ,but fuel isnt cheap here and I need to bare it in mind ,I was told the 7.4 uses no more than a 5.7 unless the throttle was opened up,Im not sure to be honest. Also is there anything in particular to look out for on the 268? sorry for all the questions ,any help would be very well welcomed! ,many thanks ,Mike ![]() |

Popular boat down under. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7278 Look at the FW info here for your fuel(petrol) burn numbers and specs. I picked the year 2004, but you can select from various years. http://assets1.fourwinnsmarketing.com/p ... %20(p90-93).pdf We owned a 268 Vista for 6 years, and were generally happy with the boat. As far as how much to pay, that is more a fuction of what you can afford and are willing to pay. You can find 268 Vista's from it's first year in 1999 starting less than $20K US all the way up to $48K for a 2005 model. Good Luck in your search. |

I just purchased a 2000 Vista 268 last August for right around 20000, similar to the price captain indicated. I have been extremely happy with the boat and the Four Winns brand. I have the 5.7 and find I burn around 10-12gph at around 3500 rpm (that's without a flow meter). If I was to do this all over and could just pick whatever I wanted I would go for the 7.4 or the dp drive as I find at times with a full load the boat can seem a little under powered. Also I know it can be added later but I would get one with a table in the aft seating area and the arch. Good luck! |

I would go with the 5.7 engine, with a duo prop. It is a good all around power plant. Will the 7.4 go faster, yes, but it's also a heaver engine. With the 5.7 you should get "about" 9 to 10 GPH burn rate, thats in U.S. gallons. Not sure if NZ is on the imperial gal or not! Good luck on what ever you pick! For what it's worth, my father was there in WWII. He is 91 now & did talk well of NZ. |

Thanks for all of your advice so far ,I really appreciate it.I wasnt aware that some of the 268 s had a single prop set up,I have a dup prop on the boat I have now and would never go back ,I find duo props alot easier to manuvure especially at low speeds, does anyone know of a nice 268 for sale at a reasonable cost? thanks guys! ![]() |

I have meticulous fuel records for a 2004 Vista 268 with the 5.7 GXi, 320 HP motor with duo-prop. They are in Excel format and I can e-mail them to whomever wants them. My average burn rate over four years is 6.3 GPH for overall use. I would estimate burn rate at cruise to be in the 11-12 GPH range, however. The boat will get over 2 MPG if trimmed properly and I find it to be quite economical as boats go. E-mail me at al337@cox.net if you want the records. AL |
