We are in the process of buying a cottage in Northern Michigan on the Lower Chain of Lakes ( Lake Bellaire 1,775 acres, Clam Lake 420 acres, Lake Skegemog 2560 acres, Elk Lake 7,730 acres and the big one, Torch Lake 18,770 acres )

My question is what rental period do people prefer ? The last 4 years we have rented from Saturday afternoon to the following Saturday morning. Talked to one Fourwinns owner up there and the place they rent goes from Friday afternoon to Friday morning so you have one entire weekend ?

Suggestions and comments ?

We tend to rent Saturday thru the following Saturday or Sunday, but the actual days are very dependent on availability for us (i.e. "take what you can get").

Saturday to Saturday makes more sense to me, because Friday night / Saturday AM can be travel time.

I like Sunday-Sunday for less traffic, but I'm a HS math teacher and don't have to go to work on Mondays in the summer. Most of the people we travel with prefer Saturday-Saturday.

We have done a timeshare on a houseboat that ran from Friday to Friday. I like that because it gives us a weekend to clean up and recuperate before going back to work on Monday.

I'm just curious, are you buying the cottage for the primary purpose of renting it out when you are not using it? Do you have a property manager or some other entity that will manage the bookings and stuff for you?
