I exaggerate a bit, but its not nearly enough! If/when we visit other lakes I make sure to carry another anchor on board with plenty of line. My home lake is only 15ft in most areas where you are allowed to anchor. I know you are supposed to pay out 3 times the depth, so I am already cutting it too close.

Minimum should be 5 times and the depth should include the distance from the water to the cleat you are tying the rode off too. If overnighting you should go at least 7 times.

hmmm.....I wonder why the Maxwell manual states "The length of line you pay out should be at least three times the depth of water"? I have always been told that unless conditions are extreme (wind, rain, current, tides, etc.) that 3 times the depth would be acceptable.

http://www.titanmarineproducts.com/prod ... des/double. This is what I decided to go with for my rode. I just received it in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to try it on the boat. The 1/2" rope is much larger than what I currently have, so this was the right move. It has the factory splice which looks very strong, but is large. I sure hope it goes into the windlass without any trouble.....

All in all, if it works it was a great deal! Paid $140 for it on ebay!

Did you get 8 strand for that price or 3 strand? Also, I forgot to mention this as another tip but if the line is old and has not been wet recently, the windlass will have trouble pulling it up as well.

It is the 8 strand- double braided. It worked great, fed right into the windlass and seems to grab well. It was a smooth transition from rope to chain also.

Today my windlass started acting up. All of a sudden it's not working correctly. It will let the chain and rope down no problem but when bringing the rope and chain up the motor is turning (I can see it spinning) but with a small amount of tension it just spins and does not continue to bring up the anchor?

Any idea what's going on?

It's a freedom 500 windlass on a 2007 278 vista?

I used this place when replacing my anchor rode and they were great to deal with! Their 8 plait nylon rode works great in the Maxwell Freedom and I've had no jams with their chain either. Try their "build a rode" option.

I would check the pressure arm first. I have replaced mine a couple of times, and is the culprit every time.
