Hi fellow Four Winners,
Since my first boat, I have always trimmed the leg to about 1/2 way when driving my boat onto the trailer, so as to make sure that I don't hit the leg on the concrete floor of the boat ramp.
Can anyone tell me if this is necessary with the H220, or can I keep the leg fully down????

Thanks in advance, Craig

It really depends on the ramp but if that worked for you in the past I'd keep doing it. I have always done the same...

On a ramp that appears to have a constant (straight) incline, I still trim up about 1/3 with my H240. If anything hits, I want it to be the skeg, not the prop.

Amen, been there done that, You will never forget to raise the drive again, luckily I drug the skeg lightly...

Hmmm...I believe my wife generally leaves the drive down and pulls right on (she does the loading because I back the trailer down the ramp). The lakes where we boat have nice long ramps with a pretty constant grade, however, maybe I should have her start to trim it up some before driving onto the trailer. Does raising the trim cause any control/maneuverability issues when loading?

It will be a bit less responsive to the steering but not much. In my mind Intome how long it takes to go from full down to half up (12 sec full 6 sec half). The ramps you use are what determine that.

Yes, I probably trim up about 3 seconds. At that level, it handles pretty normal. For lack of better wording, if the propwash "humps up" more than 2-3", then your trimmed up too high. (if you soak all the bystanders, then you are trimmed WAY too high  )

Our ramp is relatively flat compared to others so I trim up for the same reasons. I've found over time that trimming it up to the trim limit (before you have to really click it for the TILT function) is enough without straining the U-Joints in the process by going up to far.

Thanks for the replies dudes.
Think I'll keep doing what I have always done......raise the leg about 1/3.
You do lose a slight bit of steering, but you are less likely to get that horrible scraping noise when the bottom of the leg hits the concrete ramp

Cheers, Craig

I have an aftermarket trailer so I usually just pull the boat on with a rope with the drive fully up. Never driven it up the trailer.
