The V8 will use less gas during normal operation.

jimmy the muff,
Four Winns is adding a "Passion Red" for the 2015 H190RS models, which will be revealed next week at the dealer meeting in Cadillac FWIW.

I had a feeling it was about that time of the year for some sneak peeks! Red in the RS is interesting since the SS is red. I do like the new SS color scheme for 2015 though, they are starting to make it to the dealers. Four Winns has really doubled down on the deep colors on the hull, they took out what little white the 2014 SS had.

And they are adding a H180 RS outboard in passion red for 2015.

I really like the H180 RS Outboard addition to the RS line, sweet looking little boat !

Hey Robopath..... If you happen to be at Crystal Lake next Wednesday and Thursday, would you mind trailering over
to Lake Cadillac at McGuire's Resort and taking some "spy shots" for the
Four Winns fans here of the 2015's running around the lake ? It's only a 1 hour drive. That would be great !!!

Ok, i stayed away for 1 day and it seems i missed quite the conversations... i like this boat, i like the fuel injected v6, and i like that the engine and drive come with a 5 year warranty. The merc v6 they had were less power, i believe 190 hp. Sure i can go with a v8 but i dont wanna go broke filling the tank.

I dont want an outboard because i like the look and design of the i/o. I have done a million forum and google searches and most agree that merc and volvo are too similar to contest. You are all right about parts and down time being higher than mercs... I havent a clue, i havent had either. Paint on the inside of a pump? Bad idea. Trim pump under water? Im less worried about. My 30 year old rude has one sitting on the water line and so far no issues. I hope to never own a 2 stroke again lol!

Thanks for all the info folks. Thank you for clarifying the fuel injected part. It seems if i stick around ill provide some amusment for you old salts...

Do you do your own maintenance, are you going to be taking it back to them? Have you owned an I/O before? Leave it in the water or trailer stored?
I get that some people prefer the look of the I/O and the nice swim platform you can get with them. But when you have owned one for a long time, and maintained it yourself all that time, you become quite familiar with their designed in problems, made more complex and expensive by the EPA. Yes like I said, if you ever had to change an exhaust manifold, cat and elbow on a Volvo, its close to 2700, for parts only, for one side only. Here in salt water that is a deal breaker. That means, if the aftermarket does not pick these up, a manifold and cat change could top $6000 to have done.....I'm speechless......
If you have never tried a modern 4 stroke or DI injected 2 stroke you are missing out on a better performing, safer, bigger inside boat. OK I'll stop now. Tried to warn you.

As far as Volvo goes: Paint in the fuel pump and trim pump outside? No thanks. They are proven to fail prematurely.

Certainly Volvo must have quit painting the insides of the fuel pump several years ago? All of you that are replacing failed fuel pumps are not replacing them with brand new one with paint inside?

I'll be back in Evanston during next week sorry Cap'n. Judging from last year though, the dealers will have pics of the 2015's on their Facebook pages by lunch on the first day.

I heard that they stopped painting them in 2010. They are made for Volvo by Carter Fuel Systems.
The problem is not limited to Volvo, there are lot of people with mercruisers with the same problem. It seems to be caused by Ethanol separation.

It was confirmed on the chaparral forums just this week that Volvo still paints the inside of their pumps by a Volvo rep. They state it's ethanol that causes the paint separation but claim their engines are 10% ethanol safe.

Planned obsolescence.

So you all know, this alleged confirmation came from a member of the Chap board who, joined on Monday 8/4/14, has a total of 5 posts on the forum, all related to fuel pump issues, and the Rep that Ricky mentioned was actually a Customer Relations Supervisor, "who seemed way too knowledgeable on how to deal with this issue and say the right things"

Robopath is correct. 2010 was the last year they were made with paint inside. Some stock remains with paint, and it's possible some owners who replaced pumps got painted ones after 2010. It's still possible today. But if the pump was manufactured post 2010, it will not have this issue.
Carter is also a vendor for several of our company's customers, and I confirmed this a couple of years ago, when I was considering a new boat.

I understand the complications with I/O's and I do my own maintenance at this point. That being said, my next boat will be another I/O. I love the look and functionality of the swim platform area. I get that some prefer outboards, but on the lakes where I do most of my boating, I/O's are the majority and they seem to be fairing pretty well. I am sure the that OP's brand new I/O with 5 year warranty will serve him very well for a long time. Then it will serve it's next owner well for a long time after he gets 2-foot-itus. :D

Volvo is also offering extended-extended warranties. I got in the mail the other day another 2 year extension paperwork for $1000 for my Stingray's Volvo that I sold. That's 7 years of stress-free ownership.

I agree in that most people on this board, are fresh water boaters, most trailer their boats. In that use the I/O is not that much trouble at all. However, if you are going to use a boat in more difficult environmental conditions, the situation is very different. Any of my friends who ask me about what boat to buy I always tell them that they have to think about how they are using it. If you use it the way I do and the way most people I know do, then the I/O becomes a headache at some point. And the recent changes in complexity, only make it more so.
One way you can see this, any boat here used for work, where they can't have a lot of downtime, the boats run all the time (Coast Guard boats, Harbormaster, any commercial boats) they are all either outboards or straight inboards in bigger boats.
Even the water taxi launches that the marinas use to take their customers out to moored boats, are straight inboard boats or outboard powered pontoons.

Weve got a house on the chain o lakes in northern illinois so the boat will only be in fresh water. I/O is the most functional boat and make up the majority of boats on the chain. Swim platform, sun deck, easy access ladder, and i love thw flip up seats in the back. Since were right on the water i use the hell out of my boats so I like the idea of an extended warranty. I currently have a small stock of old evinrude parts standing by. Itll be nice not to have to do that. For a while anyways...

19 feet is where i want to be. I am moving up from a 16 foot 1974 glastron carlson. Big enough for the family, looks great, has a powerful engine without breaking the bank at the pump. Anything over 19 feet comes with more weight, bigger motors and a higher price tag.

Sounds to me like you have the perfect boat picked out then. I am sure you will love it for years. Happy boating!
