The Sierra 10 micron filters do NOT suck, I've used them for 10+ years in salt water and NEVER had a problem.
I use their oil filters too, never once had a problem. My boat's exposed to salt air and sits on a mooring 6 months every year. If they sucked I would have quit using them long ago.

Your engine has EFI right?
Make sure you fill the filter with clean gas. Be careful shut off the batt switch just in case.

Running the fuel pump dry on an empty fuel filter can/will burn up the pumps...that system cost around SIX HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR AMERICAN DOLLARS plus shipping and aggravation.

Yes fill it with clean gas because otherwise the fuel pump may not prime. I do this with the carbed engine as well. Also coat the rubber gasket with motor oil so it comes off easy next time. Just be careful with the gas....

+1 on filling the filter with gas before installing it. Also, you should have an electric fuel pump that you hear running momentarily when you turn the key on, but prior to starting the engine. I'd recommend turning the key to the on position to let the pump run, then turning the key off. Wait a bit and do it on again. Repeat this a few times to help the pump prime the system before starting. EFI systems operate under pressure, typically 10 to 50 psi depending on the system and engine speed. Getting the air out of the system helps pump life and also allows the engine to run smoother. Hope this helps.

No worries with Sierra water separation filters. Both of our 4.3 L Volvos run on them with no issues. I also use their lower unit gear lube in the DPS drives with great success. We do extensive cruising in Lake Huron's North Channel without issues from filters, however we are particular to only use marina Valvtec, non-ethanol treated fuel. Nothing like factory stuff but there are other options that should be looked at. Enjoy the boat as our water is in a "solid" state right now and our boat is on the hard in heated storage.

You once gave us the Sierra part# for the spin on Racor filter. Would you still have it?

The spin on Sierra filter that fits the OMC style filter adaptor is part # 7846 for the 21 micron version and # 7946 for the 10 micron version.

If you have a joint venture era Volvo (1994-1998) it probably uses the OMC style filter base, but if its newer than that I can't say really so here's the link to the Sierra catalog so you can check to be on the safe side.
Like I said I have no problem with their parts, I used their filters, starter, drive gaskets, starter solenoid, trim sender, etc. The only parts I might stick with OEM are super critical ones like a driveshaft bellows and raw water impeller.

You're asking which Racor fits on the Volvo/OMC filter adaptor then right?
Well here it is...

Now this will fit the Volvos from the joint venture era like I said above, because they used the same OMC base. But if that was changed in later models I would not know. You'd have to check the Racor catalog to make sure.

I tried one of these. What I found was that despite it being a great filter, the metal bowl you must use in an inboard application, was a major pain in the rear to get off the element when its time to change. That, and the fact that there are 2 more potential leak points (the second gasket between the bottom of the filter and the bowl and the plug itself) made me say 'lets go back to the tried and true 10 micron Sierra filters I never had a problem with'.....
If you do have a water problem, no doubt the Racor will hold more water. But in all my years of boating here in Long Island, even with a moored boat, in a damp climate, when I dumped the filter each year and checked the gas, no water in it. So to me the Sierra 10 microns were more than adequate.
Keep in mind if you try draining the bowl to check for water with it installed, you will wind up draining the whole filter, that's a fair amount of gas....unless you want to try to just let out the bottom most gas and try to get the plug back in, but that would be risky as far as spilling gas in the bilge.
In my view these are more useful in the outboard application where you can use the clear bowl and check just by looking.
