4/18 i was able to get 45 min of work in, in between storms. and sunday was a total storm day with no work. i finished the fillets and tabed in the ski locker with only 2 small spots left that will get addressed at the next clear time. kinda looks like ass at the moment with half the color sanded and 6 different shades of color. but once smooth and bright white it will look amazing. I am ready to get the floor going and things moving forward.. DAMN THIS RAIN DELAYING MY WORK

4/21 35 minutes 36.823 man hours

33 days left till my due date goal of memorial day weekend. but son needs to pack on 6# to life jacket up and hit the water. and I am weary.

Got the drain PVC flush cut, ground down some sharp high spots at the glass edges in the tabs. will hit it with the DA tonight. Ready to spread some fairing filler and get the edges feathered out. The bilge is the bilge so will not be perfect as no one will ever see it. But i can not in good conscious leave drips, spokes, and funky. But a solid coat of white sure will look nice in the near future.

Image

Image

So much dust on the mid ship SKI locker to bilge step down bulkhead drain.

Image

I hit the RUFF table base with 60g on the DA and it is getting more acceptable. I will hit it tonight with some 120 then 220 and i think it will be smooth with enough texture to satisfy me. The raw 5 grit that is was was not acceptable AT ALL..

well the weekend AKA sunday was a productive day,

6 hours total of work. 42.823 man hours

Make and attach transition step up to the walk through to the bow to compensate for the thickness of the carpet that was their before that will not be their anymore. So a 1/8 lemon sheet was added. Glued and screwed, tapered the edges.

Image

FLip and make the recessed trip rails for the ski locker hatch. Screwed, shaped ruff (will finish round the corners once epoxi down so that a finish is perfect). will get 3/8 round router treatment top and bottom and 1/2 on the under outsides for 1708 to rap.

Image

220 finish sand on the table base resulted int he perfect finish that i was wanting. Added 4 coats of clear laquor with hardener for a nice finish that will protect it.

Image

Ground the remaining high spots, applied epoxi fairing compound and then proceeded to sand and sand with 60g. apply more compound in the remaining low voids, more sanding.. Love that my DA has the ability to hook up the 2" hose 12feet long to my 3 stage dust collector with cyclone chip particle separator. This makes for a clean job. I wish i could hook u to my 4" side gringer with he flap wheel. That Some fish slings a mess EVERYWHERE! the entire boat needs a detail because of using that thing during this project. Ski locker is ready for primer and paint.

Image

Test fitting the floor with hatch for the HUMAN flex test and it was solid with just screws. SO i know it will be CHEVY "Like a Rock!" once epoxi, and glassed in.

Image

Image

Tonight (monday) we have a concert so no work. But tuesday the locker and fuel compartment will get a scuff, tac cloth with prep wipe, primer all the way to the bow, and paint. the drip rail for the locker hatch will get epoxi (before work) and glass after work. so that hopefully friday i can install the deck. AS Wednesday and Thursday are 90% rain i am no scheduling anything those days.

well i WAS planning to paint the bilge last night..... BUT my 5 month old got his Shots and was fussy and ONLY wanted to be held standing up. YES he could tell if you sat down.

SO i did not get paint done before todays rain. SO looks like tomorrow is paint. tonight will be glass work on the hatch lip and some router work.

Decided to go with a light light gray.. specifically LIGHT FORD 1950s TRACTOR GRAY. I figured that a light light gray would do better than white and not glair as harsh on my eyes while working down their..

well no new photos.. but last night i spent about 15 minutes with thickened epoxi resin gluing and screwing the hatch supports to the underside of the floor.. Depending on potential company tonight. I may or may not router the lips for glass we will see.. But i would like to atlas lay a little bit of glass. Otherwise it will happen tomorrow..

Fairly productive weekend when i had time..

Got the Primer laid down in the Ski locker. and then a top coat of Light gray. The bow area is still a bit wavy but i don't care as that is not easily seen so was not worth the extra effort.

Image

Image

Filled the factory foam void. and i amy have added a tad to much for the 87* temp.. OOPS. good thing a hack saw blade makes for easy flush cutting.

Image

Got 3 layers of 9oz laid on the ski locker lip radius. tonight i will flip it and finish the transition onto the underside and add 1708 to the bottom.. The tops side 1708 will be laid on once the floor is mounted in the boat and will run flush to the edges of the opening..

It still amazes me how large these ski lockers are compared to some of the modern (PAST 5 YEARS) boats that i have looked at that can barley fit a set of skies. let alone a wake board and all the water toys i can think of bringing. I have no issue fitting a: wake board,, knee board, and skies, along with floats and life jackets in my locker.. sometimes it is floats grill and all sorts of other things.. love the large space,,

Modern boats should do better at utilizing sub floor storage spaces.

I agree. I was surprised to see one like this in the Cruisers 258 BR (formally Azure before Cruisers, Inc bought them):

Image.

That is how to make a ski locker.

PS: You are making great progress ;)

^^^^ and i feel that that locker is shallow for a set of wake board binding. and it narrow at the dash.. mine is 14" deep 26" wide and 8.5 feet till it tapers up into the bow. a solid 6 feet of flat space full depth before the height changes. i am 6'2 and can comfortably pay in it under the floor as i did in my investigation work before this project started..

New boats i feel depend on in seat storage and they seem to brag.. Like we should be wowed that a seat has storage. HOW about a huge floor storage. or a door not he dash that is large enough to do more than wedge one arm in to try and fix a wire..

THANKS i am happy with the progress and work.. THOUGH it is stressing the wife out with a 5 month old.. SHE had a melt down this morning over tired and evedently i spent 48 solid hours this weekend on the boat and not 4.5 total over 2 days.. BUT no way did i tell her that. i said alright i will let you get some you time this week in the evenings and not do as much on the boat in the DAY light.. notice i said DAYLIGHT aka i will work on boat when baby is sleep and she has fallen asleep around 9. This simply means a little less work each day and more tired for me. BUT if it makes her not crazy, then it is worth it..

I so wanted to tell her. you complain now that I work not he boat bla bla la, but come time you want to go out in it, i know you will complain that it is not done.. I AM SCREWED EITHER WAY. Just floating in the current until the flooded carb clears and i can start motor again in a couple days. if you follow.. lol

Preach on! May 1st was the first day for in/out rack service so I absolutely wanted to go out Saturday to try out our new to us boat. My wife made plans weeks in advance to go shopping with my mom. So I took our two boys (3 & 7) and my father-in-law out for about 5 hours cruising around, anchoring, having lunch, etc.

We also went out yesterday (Sunday), this time it was my wife and boys. She actually had an attitude that I didn't wait to go out the first time on it so she could go to. She would have rather I sat home on Saturday and do nothing while she was shopping.

I bit my tongue but I am the one that looked at hundreds maybe even thousands of boats online, did the research, searched some more, research different marinas for our size boat, get a loan, make arrangements to pick up the boat, pay for the marina, find someone to rub/wax the boat (after researching that I did not want my boat to my first attempt), pull the boat (wife won't drive with a trailer), additional research on hundreds of other things and do many more things that as a boat owner you know what I am talking about and all while working 50+ hours a week.

All she has to do is show up and she wants to complain that I didn't wait for her?!
