Tonight i a am going to plan to finish the rear depending on time and weather.. this is a busy week with a job interview on wednesday.. but I will keep pushing forward.. Not a ton was done over the weekend as we were dealing with a sick baby and i have a stack of yard work that needed to get done between storms.

Awesome job man! I had the exact same boat, same color, three years ago. Mine was an SS with the rear bench all the way across. See sig-pic. Only deal-breaker for me was the transom was rotten so I sold it. Got a replacement now that needs way less work!
135 original hours.

Nice. not too many SS floating around.. I did away with the slide out day bed lounger. and am going with a flip forward bench top.. this suites our needs much better gaining all of the storage area.

I'll probably do the same on the 170. The slide-out is useless to us.

storage is superior to a silly pull out additional sun pad

When I re-did the boat I used a pair of 36" wide pontoon seats, that have storage under the seat. So if I have to do maintenance on the engine I can lift out one, or both if needed very easily. I notched the shelf that goes all the way along the gunnel to hold them in.
This is much much easier than moving a big heavy full width seat just to get in there and change an oil filter or fuel filter. The bulkhead behind the seats, also is in 2 pieces with a take apart hinge in the middle....so I have a door to my engine compartment lol...

OK so the last of the interior floor main glass is done into the engine compartment and under the batteries. Finish edge work and detail glass will proceed this week. I built a new rear bench seat as the first one was way too heavy. The new bench is a mix of 1/4" and 3?8" ply that is glued and brad nailed.. YEs i know metal in the boat BUT the 1/4 is too thin to accept a screw with out splitting or bulging the sides so i decided to go with stainless brad nails to tack things together on the bench. Got the flush mount recessed double beveled lips for the 12" sub for the rear of the cockpit made. I decided to add an additional layer of 3/4 to the inside so that i would have more thickness for the speaker mounting screws to bite into. All of the seams have been 5200 sealed and will start laying the internal box glass. The floor will get 2 layers of 1708 so that shit can be tossed in without worry of damage. and the rest of the walls will get 2 layers of 9oz which will be plenty for side impact. The out side of the bench will get 9oz and this should be plenty solid. A top cap of 1/4 will be added and glassed on once the inside is glassed. This top cap will have a large opening for accessing the storage area and will seal off the Sub. the hinged bench base will be 1/2 and sit flush on the 1/4 top cap..

Ok now to some pictures. i know it has been a while. BUT some things in life with a new baby take priority.

It is going to be so nice to have all of this additional dry water tight storage available.

I cannot wait to see the floor skimmed with epoxi fillet and smoothed.. the day that nice white is slick as glass not he floor with non skid cannot come soon enough!

Laid the first layer of 1708 on the storage compartment floor last night. and the 2nd layer this morning before work..

the storage area is 7.19ft2 and 11ft3 of added dry storage space.. I am so excited to have this added storage. and the cooler can fit spun the narrow width direction..

with the help of a buddy finally after months of brain storming i have a suitable CLEAN SIMPLE OPERATIONAL SECURE mounting solution for the rear bench storage seat that keeps it in place and secure.. easy removal of the lock pens and a 2-3" forward slid and the bench can be lifted out of the boat or further slid forward. I will draw it up nice and share.

lookin very good, you're going to end up with a boat that's better built than a new one.

as promised. the large block will be mounted to the floor and the small wedge to the bench.. One tab on each of the 4 GUNNEL side corners of the bench.. Inset about 1-2" from corner. The bench will slide forward 2-3" and can be free from the mount and lifted out or continued to slide forward for more engine space. When done simply slide to the stern and the wedge tabs will lock into the base and prevent any further turn direction travel. Each mount will have a ball detent pen that will securely prevent the bench from forward motion. 1" StarBoard HPDE white is the material ordered and stainless ball detent pens.
