Dropped the boat off at the fiberglass guys how this weekend. Should have it back in two weeks. That means I have two weeks to get the engine back together and to get all of these transom parts clean and painted.

She can be even better than new provided that all the core wood in the new transom is sealed around the cut out for the drive and those 6 holes for the mount. Are they using polyester, vinylester or epoxy resin for this job?

Cabosil is a filler to thicken the resin. The thing that makes those transoms rot is that they cut out the drive opening and they don't seal the raw wood with epoxy. All it would take would be 2 coats of epoxy on that opening and in the 6 holes, as well as sealing any other holes in the transom for the drain plug, speedo pick up, depth finder etc and your transom would last the life of the boat, ie indefinitely....

When you re-install the transom mount, I'd make sure that its well sealed, (you can mix up some epoxy resin and just paint it on with a brush if there are any spots that they did not get) and then use 3M 4200 in all 6 holes and on the seal for the transom mount. Its messy but makes a good seal. I've been using this to seal up the screws for the transducer and when I remove them years later to re-bed them I never got water out of the transom and as you know this boat sits in the water all season.

I did have that question. The transom mount was previously just relying on the foam transom seal to keep water out..and that scares me .

Can I just slather on the 5200 when I reinstall the transom? Go right over the seal? Or more towards the outside?

I would use 4200 because it is removable unlike 5200 which is kinda semi permenant.
I would put 4200 in the recess in the transom mount where the seal fits and Id put a bead on the seal where it goes on transom. Last Id fill those 6 holes with 4200...

Good stuff just be careful with the zinc chromate primer (wear a good fume respirator)... It's pretty toxic

Agreed. I have a good respirator with a full face mask for this type of work.

More parts! Really fast shipping on the risers. They look really good and came with all new hardware (plugs, bolts, etc) to install them.

I wont be using these gaskets as I picked up some OEM one's on Ebay.

Had a very productive day today. I spent my time bouncing between doing a house project for the Admiral and priming a bunch of stuff that needed to get done. I was very happy with what I got done and then I got a call from the fiberglass guy. He is done! :D Says everything went really well and I can pick up the boat tomorrow.

Got to love that primer green! Maybe I'll keep it that color?

Zinc Chromate Green in my mind is always associated with one of our past major industries here on Long Island......Aircraft manufacturing....home of the Grumman Cats (Wildcat, Hellcat and Bearcat) and the Republic Thunder Factory (P47 Thunderbolt.....Thunderjet...Thunderchief...Thunderstreak)....
