Hey All, hoping to order a Dock Box for the marina during the sale time of year.

Any feedback on what you use, what you think works best. Looking at fiberglass, but not set in stone.... shipping is crazy...

Marina's around here provide dock boxes at your slip. 99.935% are Fiberglass, for a good reason.

Its up to you but I have used a regular plastic deck box from the hardware store. It's lasted very well and looks decent too. Most others at our marina do the same. There really isn't any difference from a deck and dock. Same sun. We are on fresh water so salts not an issue. Obviously the fiberglass ones are more robust but they are 10 times the price too. I think I paid like $60, has gas struts for the lid and a lock too. Also has a flat top so you can use it as a table on the dock.
I take it home in the winter and it stays out side year round.

Where I keep my boat is covered in a wet slip year round.
I have a plastic one from Sams for $99.96. No shipping. The Sams stores here have tons of them in stock.
It has worked good for me for several years and shows no signs of wear or falling apart anytime soon. And it is big enough for all my stuff plus chairs, extra life jackets, bumpers, cleaning stuff, etc...
I put 4 cap blocks in the bottom to keep it from wanting to slide around in heavy wind (never had an issue).

Only issue is it does not have a seal around the top and there is really no way to add one due to the honeycomb design of the top.
For me this is no issue since our entire dock is covered.

I've have the fiberglass one that has the built-in indention for a seat. My marina has a policy that all dock boxes need to be fiberglass. It costs more, but the overall appearance of the marina looks better when its standardized (plus a lot easier to clean).

I have always had luck on craigslist.

Chris268 Findlay requires the boxes to be fiberglass which is just another one of the rules they don't enforce. They sell the boxes at the marina and as you mentioned due to the shipping I found that to be the least expensive option. I would believe Lithia would be a similar situation and sell the boxes as well. Ours doubles as a seat and we have a very social dock right now.

I'm not aware of Lithia being a supplier, but I'm sure they'd help you find one if you wanted (for a cost for their "services" I'm sure). I have a pretty nice, heavier, deck box I use. Got it new this past season. My previous one was just a cheaper, lighter weight version, and loaded, was light enough I took it home each season, rather than leaving on the dock. The new one is, with other guy on my docks box on the same finger, just too big and heavy to attempt to move loaded around everything to take home, so I locked it up, and left it there this season..

Thanks guys, I will have to get out the contract for lithia and read it closer. I don't recall anything about a restriction, but I wasn't looking for it. Walking the docks, I have seen plywood ones, plastic ones and just a couple of the nice fiberglass ones. I am leaning toward a 71" fiberglass one, because I am a pack rat, and I know I want some things o be handy, but not always on the boat..... I do like the cheaper plastic ones just for common sense so cost effective....

Our community dock would require one of the triangular boxes that fit on the corner of the boat slip, mostly over the water below. the gangway is 4 feet wide, the fingers between the slips alternate between 1 foot wide and 2 feet wide, so no space for a box except over the slip itself.
Has anyone seen anything that will work on a dock like ours (24 slips)?

We went with the Sams dock box as well but mainly because it matches our slip furniture. No problems so far and seems well-built.

That's an awesome setup, the box line oks great for a fraction of the cost.
