I picked up a nice spare Cobra outdrive off of eBay and have been collecting Cobra parts over the past few years...trim rams....steering actuator...exhaust Y pipe..Cobra parts are surprisingly reasonably priced...

I think there are guys out in fresh water parts of the Midwest parting out rotted boats and there is a treasure trove of nice fresh water parts. Here we are all salt water so for me its a no brainer to collect stuff I may need since I can always ebay it if I sell the boat and didn't need it. But it keeps me from losing a season if I need something that can't be found around here.

I just got all new rollers, shafts for them and marker lights for the trailer. In anticipation of spring. I would post pictures if the site would accept them with out 15 tries to get the exact number of pixels it wants.

I checked the engine bay for a noise it developed after a 70 mile run to Sarasota and back to Charlotte harbor. I can see some belt dust on the stringers so something connected to the belt is not correct. I called my mechanic. I also cleaned the seats and measured the rear storage door slam locks to order a new one. The old lock is broken.

I got a prop it was the wrong pitch so I sent it back today. Last night I re-ordered the prop I wanted from a different place it should be here in 2 days.

Mach3 Express 14.25X21. Prop number 6 lol. I got a bunch.

River is flooded. That means boat season is getting closer.

The right prop came a few days ago.

I put the new trailer rollers on. The new prop today.

Tomorrow new plugs in the motor. Trailer marker light. One of the yellow guys is burned out. Put the battery and gas in the tractor.

It is getting close to splash time isn't it guys?

Well I tried 4 different ways to post a picture this site needs to get a grip as far as pics go. IMG tag dont work. URL dont work. Post a image it cries it isnt the pixal count it likes. LOL I tried.

We had a couple of warm days now back to damp and cold. Got a couple of projects on the old boat before I launch it this year. Have to fix some rot in the starboard combing panel wood and while I have it off I will finally install the new control I bought like years ago. These panels are a real pain to remove so I waited till it really had to be done, I did the port side about 2.5 years ago...then a little upholster work, new accelerator pump for my old Quadrajet etc.

Picked up the boat from storage yesterday and it will be on its way to a mechanic to replace the lower unit with a brand new one. I looked for a good used unit but all we could find (and very few at that) were short-shaft versions (20") and I have the long-shaft (25"). While the mechanic could R&R the shafts, it was going to be about $810 (out the door) w/ a 90-day warranty on a used unit. He said he could replace with new for $1,350 (out the door) with a 3-yr warranty. We decided that was the better way.

It still sucks to have to shell out that kind of cash for something that I figure was cause by my fault when I re-sealed the lower unit at the end of 2019. I can only figure my measurement of the shift linkage was off causing the gears to wear. We'll see how this turns out.

We're planning to use the boat this year thru the summer, then decide if we keep it or not. Since my daughter is graduating college in a few weeks and getting started in her life, the number of times we take the boat out are starting to seem less and less. Having a new lower unit with a transferrable warranty if we decide to sell in a year or two will be beneficial at that time.

I just finished wet sanding my 1998 220 Horizon. I removed the scraped decals and they left behind terrible shadowing. The purple was oxidized and the white needed some brightening up. I also changed by bellows and repainted the outdrive while it was off.

Last year I was out the second week of march. This year we had a major snow storm in april and It just stopped freezing. Dock was in then the river flooded and they took it back out. I was down there checking it today.

I waxed it and did the interior. It is ready. I started it yesterday and let it warm up. I am ready.

The river is 15 foot up but going down. Hopefully this is the last time for the year. River actually looked good. No debris and was real smooth.

I picked the boat up Monday evening, but due to incoming storms I had to take it back to storage without putting it in the water. I did run it on the hose for a few minutes to make sure everything worked (appeared to). If the potential for upcoming storms this weekend dissipates, then maybe we'll get out on the water. Maybe not. Either way, shifting into Fwd/Rev at the house was surprisingly smooth and easy. Much more so than the last few times we ran the boat. So far, sounds like a win!
