Normally, the switch on the panel turns on the shower sump pump regardless of the float position in the sump pump. Also, regardless of the switch position on the panel, the shower sump pump should turn on if the float rises as the sump fills with water.
If your shower sump pump only runs when the switch on the panel is turned ON and the float in the sump pump rises because of water, then I suggest you never turn off the sump pump switch on the panel. It will basically act as another bilge pump if ever you have water accumulation.
