I have a question regarding the galley and shower sump pump that pumps water overboard once it reaches the sump. the sump will work only if I have the panel switch on but will continue to run unless I turn it off. Is this normal? Should it only activate the pump if the float is engaged? If i don't have it on the water over flows the basket and end up in the bilge mid which ends up smelling. The pump and basket are new. Is this the proper way the sump works or do i have a wiring problem?

I bought the boat used and its always run this way.

Normally, the switch on the panel turns on the shower sump pump regardless of the float position in the sump pump. Also, regardless of the switch position on the panel, the shower sump pump should turn on if the float rises as the sump fills with water.

If your shower sump pump only runs when the switch on the panel is turned ON and the float in the sump pump rises because of water, then I suggest you never turn off the sump pump switch on the panel. It will basically act as another bilge pump if ever you have water accumulation.

I have the exact same problem with my 358 Vista. If you turn the switch on then the sump it will run regardless of how much water is in the basket. The float doesn't have any impact. My main issue is when you have the AC on the condensation dumps into the basket and unless you have the switch on the pump won't work. You can't expect to have the sump pump running all the time as it will eventually burn burn out and its noisy. What's the sense of have a float in the basket if the pump is running all the time?

I'm assuming its wired incorrectly so that the pump is hot wired?

Curious if anyone has suggestions.
