The Good: Hurricanes and the weather that comes with them prevents me from really having to do anything in my line of work. :D

The Bad: Hurricanes and the weather that comes with them do not play well with boaters.

The Ugly: I've used my boat an entire 20 minutes in the last four weeks!

Looks like Sunday might have a little sunshine before Gustav hits the coast and shoves weather up to northern MS on Monday, so hopefully I'll get some use out of her again this weekend.

My workplace tracks these pretty carefully. Here's the update from yesterday, I usually get two per day. Anyway, looks like you may be boating Sunday and possibly Monday.

Gustav should pass along the southern coast of Jamaica this afternoon then begin a turn to the west-northwest, passing just south of Georgetown in the Cayman Islands tomorrow evening. After passing western Cuba Saturday night, Gustav is forecast to take a northwesterly turn toward the central Gulf of Mexico. Our forecast takes the center of Gustav inland into central or southeast Louisiana on Tuesday morning.
With Gustav's slower movement, there are some indications that high pressure over the northern U.S. will build southward toward the Gulf Coast as Gustav nears landfall. This could result in a turn to the west-northwest either just before or just after landfall. Our confidence in the location of Gustav's final landfall across the northern Gulf Coast is very low today.
Satellite imagery and observations from a reconnaissance aircraft indicate that Gustav is nearing hurricane strength. Continued strengthening is likely over the next 3 days as Gustav tracks west-northwestward across the Caribbean. Gustav could become a major Category 3 hurricane prior to reaching the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday morning. Once in the Gulf, it's possible that Gustav could become even stronger. Some models indicate that Gustav could become a Category 4 hurricane in the central Gulf with winds of 135-140 mph. It's probable that Gustav would weaken some prior to final landfall on the Gulf Coast due to increasing wind shear, but our confidence in the intensity forecast in the Gulf and at final landfall is below average.
Other Possibilities
There are a number of factors that may be influencing the long-term track of Gustav. With all of the uncertainty, it's conceivable that Gustav could make its final landfall anywhere from Texas to the Florida Panhandle. The current trend is a little more to the west with each model run. This westward shift is due to the uncertainty of the influence of high pressure over the northern and central U.S. by next Tuesday.
