Just called and found out I can expect to receive the dual tone horn in mid September. :|

The dual horns arrived today. Basically it's two of the stock horns mounted on a bracket that through bolts to the SS cover. The existing cover uses screws, not bolts, so I may have to enlarge those holes a bit. I'm not real happy that the bracket isn't stainless, but in seeing that the other side of the stock horns are not stainless either I guess it's not a big deal. The mounting area appears to be high and dry. I may have some time for an install yet this season. This season may end the weekend after next for me, or if not the weekend following - all depends on the Admiral.

Is there a pic somewhere? Or can you post one sometime?

Ok, some pics.

Here's a side view of the horns on the bracket, mounted to the included faceplate.

Image

Here's the view from the back, looking towards the rear of the faceplate.

Image

And finally an overhead view from the front of the faceplate.

Image

Note the white blobs on the left side of the horns - this is where Fiam siliconed the 'pitch' adjustment screw. Evidently even the stock horns have this adjustment screw. Should be easy to change the pitch of the stock horn should anybody wish to do so.

I've been thinking about the install. I'm planning on using the existing wiring. I figure I just need to cobble together two 'two to one' jumper wires using spade connections, and bump up the 5 amp fuse in the fuse panel to 8 or 10 amps. That part is easy. The physical install may be more difficult.

The first obstacle may be insertion of the dual horn assembly through this rectangular access in the anchor locker:

Image

If the entire assembly won't fit, I'm certain I can remove the horns from the bracket, pass them through, and then re-assemble. The next challenge will be whether I can reach through that access with my right arm, positioning the horn assembly just right in this area:

Image

While at the same time reaching around with my left hand positioning the access plate and through bolt just right to mount one to the other near the point of the bow over here:

Image

Just not sure I have the reach, let alone the dexterity to do all the above while holding a screw driver. Might be a two man job.

Great pics - thanks! And, as you alluded to earlier, I'm not sure I can even get to my horn through the anchor locker. That's a promising looking unit, however.

I checked things out this past weekend. The horn assembly does pass through that access in the anchor locker. Also install can be a one man job. If I hadn't run out of flat blade connectors, the dual horn would already be installed. Hope to get to it this weekend, right before I take the boat out for winterization.

Cool! Something tells me your anchor locker access is much better than mine.

A .wav file would be nice ;) .

Jim,

What was the outcome of the dual horns sound wise? Also what did you do the the wires to be able to wire both horns?

Didn't get them installed yet. Things were kinda crazy for me having to store the boat and winterize the cottage in the last weekend of the season. I did manage to hear the sound by testing them on a car battery - the dual horns have a much better sound than the stock single, but I'll have to wait until they are installed before I can tell how much louder they will be. The wiring should be a piece of cake, I will simply make up two 'Y' cables with the appropriate waterproof blade connectors at the ends, and attach the single part of the 'Y" to the existing wires, and the forked end to apprpriate each horn. Then I'll replace the fuse in the fuse box with one of the recommended amperage. Mounting the horn will be the hard part, just have to contort myself sufficiently to hold the horn assembly in place within the hull, and the cover plate in place on the outside of the hull, while screwing the nut through the faceplate and hull into the threaded backplate. Just as it sounds, I expect to be in need of a third (and possibly fourth) hand. Might be a pain, but wish I were at it right now!

This looks like a nice upgrade for the Horizon owners.

i wish the Vista's didn't have giant fricking trumpets on the deck. I'd much rather have a couple freeway blasters mounted flush somewhere.

Hi Jim,

Did you get a chance to install the FIAMM dual horns?

Are you pleased with your purchase / install?
