Congrats Perrys,
Lots of luck. Many of us on here have 358's and would be happy to answer your questions. One thing I know to check out with the mechanics is if the engines are set for the correct rpms. On our boat with 6.2's the correct range for max rpms is 4800-5200. There is a plate on the engines that tell you the operating max range and you want to be sure your engines are reaching that range. You need all the power you can get.

Well done! I'd wish you "fair winds and following seas," which is customary before a journey, but I've never been a fan of following seas.. so, good luck and may Neptune smile upon her and everyone she carries.

In addition to whatever training you receive from the dealership, pick up a copy of Chapman's and read, read, read! Despite being a lifelong boater, when I moved up to the V358 I bought this book. It's a bit simplistic but it really gives you a sense of all of the systems you'll be dealing with and how everything works (plus it's a very easy read). Also seek out your local power squadron and take a course this winter with your wife. It will be invaluable and greatly enhance your enjoyment of your yacht (yes, it is a yacht).

And, of course, we'll need to see more pictures!

Congrats, If you agent is Intermarine, maybe we'll see you over in the Bahamas next year, if not a run down the coast to Fort Pierce or into Manatee pocket at Stuart (Pirates Cove good) or even further down to Fort Lauderdale Pier 66 i recommend highly. ( Don't bother with Hutchingson Island just out side Stuart or Sailfish in West Palm Beach very snott y and expensive).
One of the reasons for buying ours other than the great deal was this is about the max most marinas can dry stack and ours is also undercover as we are not there alot of the time, it's worth looking into as dry stacked inside a covered barn it's totlly protected.

Anyway have fun

Sean

We actually purchased in Holly Hill. The price we were quoted for a similar one in Dania was considerably higher. The boat is currently at Halifax Harbor Marina in Daytona Beach. This week, items on our punch list are being resolved, and bottom painting should be completed.

We just got back to Maryland on Sunday, and we already miss the relaxing time we spent on the boat. :) We will be heading back down to Florida in about five or six weeks.

Looks like a very nice boat. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/2008/Four-Winns-358-Vista-1799020/Daytona-Beach-Holly-Hill/FL/United-States

Hopefully the dealers' "special FL promo best price" was about 30% to 40% less than the $292,800 it was listed for. Either way, you will really like it I'm sure. Congrats !!

The dealer is actually still trying to sell that one but it is very similar to ours. He thought he had it sold but the deal fell through. The one he still has is actually black, not blue. The picture must be a generic one that he has on hand.

Thanks for the clarification. It looked similar to your boat, so I thought it was. My apologies. Looking forward to some of your pictures and comments on the boat once you get a chance to spend some time on it. Is yours in the water now ?

So what inspired you to purchase a new boat out of your home market?

Yes, it is at a marina in Daytona.

Our interaction with the local dealer. The local dealer did have a 358 but it had less options and a much higher price tag. We did not realize at the time that buying outside our home market was controversial but we now know from reading forums that there could be service issues down the line. We'll keep our fingers crossed we don't have any problems with the local dealer once we move the boat here.

Buying in Florida has actually been good for us given our limited experience. The dealer has been very hands-on, stopping by the boat many times since we left Florida to make sure that we shut things down properly, didn't have too much leaking during a few rain showers, and transporting the boat for bottom painting. The other night, the marina contacted him when a CO monitor was going off during the night, and he went over and took care of it. Most importantly, since we are new to boating, we will have opportunities over the winter to learn more about operating, manuveuring and docking so that we're all ready to go next summer.

Curious as to what the CO monitor alarm cause was. It has happened to me twice now, and a different reason both times. The reason I asked if your boat was in the water is I would be concerned about it sitting virtually unattended , in salt water, for several months. A seemingly little thing like the CO alarm could be the beginning of a bad result. For example, if the shore power cord became disconnected( happened to me) the boat would be on battery power for however long is unknown. If there is not enough battery power left to run the bilge pumps during a storm/hurricane etc, it could be bad news. If the dealer is committed to watch your boat as if it was his own, and you trust he will, then it could be a non issue. I would feel uncomfortable being that far away from my boat, and trusting someone else to look after my pride and joy.
