I am getting ready for my spring project... adding some LED lighting under the swim platform. I am thinking of connecting the lights right to the stern light.

http://www.oznium.com/marine-led-lighting

I order four, in green, to light the whole swim platform.

Now I just have to wait 4 months to get stated.

p.s. I hope all you Aussies are having fun in the Sun...

If you connect them at the stern light wont they come on everytime the stern light is on? If so I wouldnt do it, take the time to run the wire to the fuse block and put a switch on it so you can turn them off while underway so the fish cops dont stop you.

Agreed... they cannot be done in a way which could be confused as running lights. GEt us some pics when you're done though. I'm seriously considering some white ones to put under my swim deck.

I ran mine to a separate switch at the helm. Not very hard to do. The lights, switch and wire were only about 50 dollars or so.

That looks really sweet. Have you done a write up on how you did it 248 Vista?

Sadly no I havent. I had soooo many projects last year that I just didnt get around to it. Between those lights, the tab mounted lights, new faucet, ac install, and a few others, just never got around to it. Maybe I will soon. It was very easy though.

Good point about the stern light.... You are right, the best thing to do is run them to the fuse block and have a separate switch for them.

Is it illegal to have underwater transom led lights on while underway in a no-wake zone?

I would check with your local authorities, because everyone has heard something different. I asked my local sherriff once, and he said that it is not illegal to have the lights on while running. Didn't ask about no-wake zone though. He did say that the colors of the lights cannot be red, green, or white while the vessel in under way since they can be mistaken for navigation lights.

That is my understanding as well according to the game warden. There is no special rule for no-wake zones in Texas that I am aware of. The key is, as you mentioned, not to have lights on that confuse other boaters.

Although those colors are legal I have found out the hard way that bright underwater lights on while underway will attract the authorities to your boat! Maybe it's similar to the whole police/red sports car theory. I have gotten to the point where I use them only when on the hook just to save myself from excess boardings by the CG!

With all that aside installing these lights is the best mod I have done to our boat! Our night time cannonball contests are so much fun :D
