About a year and a half ago TIARA Yachts here in Holland had over 800 employees. About 8 months ago they laid off 400. Friday they laid off 300 leaving 100. It is supposed to be for 5 weeks until they can fill their order file. Looks like all the manufacturers are boatin' in the same pond.

Yep.....

Quote:
MasterCraft last week laid off about 110 workers, or about a third of its workforce, from its production and administrative facilities in Vonore, Tennessee. The builder makes high-end wakeboard boats and cruisers.
The company said that about 200 employees will remain at the facility. Those laid off will not receive severance packages.

Rough times.

OUCH.

Hopefully the 2008 model year boats will hold their resale due to the very limited numbers of 09s!

If history is an indicator, they will. Tiara's hardly ever drop in value at the same rate as the rest of the market. When I bought my V298 (which was 4 years old at the time), I had to look back to 10 year old Tiaras to get in the ballpark price wise, and then they were rare. By the way CougarCruiser, I owe you an apology for my post on the 'top 3-5 reason' thread. I called you Cougar Cat like the boat brand. I put all blame on the Eliot Ness brew I was consuming. The gravity was much higher where I was standing and it made it harder to move my fingers on the keyboard! Any news on your genset? I'll watch that thread.

Proper response to President Obama's proposed 2010 budget annonced the same day that rolls back Bush's tax-cuts for the wealthy and totally eliminates the mortgage interest deduction. I wonder how many people who make less than $250k a year own a Tiara?
