I just discovered that my CO alarms were discinnected. When I reconnected them all was good for a bit then the alarm would go off. I know there was no CO, nothing had been on or burning. Do the alarms have a service life, and the sensor is toast?

Those sensors will start to beep if your voltage is low.

I have heard they do have a service life... 5 years, anybody else heard of that. That goes for the ones in the house as well.

i just sent mine in to firefox xintex, they will check them ou tfor 25.00 each. they do beep after the battery gets low. mine always beeps in the morning.

No definative answer here, but ours do go off when voltage is low, and seem to work fine after 8 years in the boat, as long as the voltage is good. Someone from the west coast I'm sure has an opinion on these monitors they will share.

Try leaving them on for 72 hours and they should clean themselves. Other wise they need to be repair or replaced.

The alarm seems to have fixed it's self. After being moored for 48 hrs with shore power plugged in, when I plugged them in they worked normally. I would have thought the batteries were fully charged, it sat in my driveway for 2 days plugged in. Either way I'm glad it's working now I didn't want to spend $260 to replace them.

bndfishing, glad things worked out okay for you. They sure are pricey to replace, but nonetheless, important to have working properly.

"Domestic" CO alarms with a battery life of a claimed 5 years only cost around £30, say $US 40. I'll be replacing my Xintex one with one of those this year; the Xintex works fine if I leave it connected to a 12V supply at home, but it sounds off every time I use the boat (even without the engine running, I hasten to add!). I thought it was faulty, but now it looks like it's because the battery switch has been off in the meantime! With the boating I do, to have to wait 72 hours before it works it may as well not be there.
