Curious if any of you guys who bought floor models had your dealer swap the cockpit icemaker (assuming it had one in place) for a fridge? If so, was there a price difference? How did they handle it?

Ours had a ice maker in it when we got it. Our dealer changed it out for us. They contacted four Winns. And they sent a part I know out to them . They also told them what they had to do. Our dealer then sold our ice maker on line. I am not sure what it cost. It was one of the dealers they had to do for us. We love the fridge that we got. It can hold 2-2 liter bottles of soda. And a 30 pack of beer. Works out great for us. Now we don't need ice. Except for mix drinks.

FYI, can't seem to catch a break on getting it launched. The weather is not our friend.

I ordered my 2008 358 with the cockpit refigerator and it shipped from Fourwinns with an Ice maker. The dealer tried to talk me into keeping the ice maker but I insisted on the fridge. They had to do some modification to the cabinet but they changed it in a couple of days and you can't tell that it wasn't the original factory installation.

Bill, Thanks for the comments on the galley sink drain. I agree it will better to just add the additional through hull drain. How is the wiring for the fridge set up? is there enough wire to slide the fridge all the way out? does have a disconnect plug on the wiring?

From what I understand, it's a fairly easy swap.

I have the fridge and have actually contemplated going to the ice maker.

I'm not sure the ice maker runs on 12v though. I think it might be shore power or generator only (don't quote me on that).

The icemaker runs on 110 only. MY 2000 328 has the factory icemaker and we love it. I never thought we would use it a much as we do. I also found the 12volt wiring for the fridge in the engine room underneath the wet bar area, taped to a wiring loom . the end connector is already on . so if anyone wants to put a fridge in place of a icemaker you are ready to go.

I may replace mine as I think it cracked during the winter before last. It should be a relatively easy swap. They definitely only run on 120vac power. It is handy having a source of ice but if I had the choice I would've gotten a fridge there instead.

I saw a rather clever setup on a boat at a show a while back, it had a fridge 'drawer' under the helm seat. The drawer slide out into the walkway area. It was a great use of the space. I don't see making that modification to ours but I wouldn't mind having a better place to store the dinghy outboard engine...

Thanks All. I confirmed that there is an icemaker topside on the boat I'm interested in. I just emailed them and asked them to work on getting it exchanged for a fridge. Good thing it's a buyers market!!

I asked my mechanic who did the job and was told that the fridge door needed to be removed to get to the screws that hold the fridge in place. Then the fridge slid out and there were plugs behind the fridge (12V and A/C) and it was no problem. Plenty of slack I guess!

I have had it both ways. Fridge up top in this boat, and ice makers in previous boats. I waffle back and forth on which set-up I like better. My Admiral prefers the fridge since we don't have to dedicate any space in the galley fridge for beverages we can cram more food in there. I kinda like the ice maker because we can go down to the boat and have a drink and not worry about having ice. We are not really beer drinkers and need ice for our beverages. If we aren't going anywhere and don't need to buy ice it is kinda nicer to just have it at the ready.

And on a related tangent, I've had *great* success with the Igloo MaxCold line of coolers. They do truly keep stuff cold for days. Much longer than anything else I've tried (including the all-white plastic 'marine' versions). My only disappointment is the seem to have discontinued the smallish Maxcold 36 size. It served great double-duty as a cooler and a seating stool up in the cockpit.


I'd like to replace the one I've got as the handle has popped loose (due to my heaving it up onto the dock with it fully loaded). If I see any on sale again you can bet I'll buy two, just to keep a spare.

Here is a perfect example of why bigger is better

My 378 Vista has both a fridge and ice maker. As someone here said, the ice maker is great for when you're down at the dock and want a mixed drink without having to remember to bring ice down and the fridge is perfect for keeping your choice of beverages cold all the time.

I wonder if that would work with the admiral -- "Honey, if we got the 378, then we would have BOTH the icemaker and fridge in the cockpit".

It's worth a try. I won't even bring up the IPS or other benefits of a 378 -- I'll just start with the icemaker.
