Damn it!

Looks like in about a weeks time, my drive unit slowly lowers itself. I guess bad check valve? I hate my dealer, so I dont even want to take the damn thing in, even if I have to. Its leaking down a few inches/week.

Is this an easy fix typically? Like, is it something I can just replace myself without too much destruction?

It is a warranty item and you should let dealer deal with it….
There is no need to you to touch it…. You bought a brand new boat and you should expect proper service you deserve from your dealer. FW will back you up if you have a issue with your dealer.... I do understand your frustration with lousy dealer... and have to wait a little…

I'd get them to look at it as long as you have the warrantee...repair of that system is not cheap and if they are not good, look around for a better dealer...I always leave mine down to take any stress off the 21 year old Cobra I am still running.....

Do you guys typically store with the drive up or drive down? By store, I dont mean off season, I mean week to week type usage.

The reason I hate my dealer is because the last time I had it there it was there nearly 2 months for a bunch of simple stuff. I dont want my boat tied up for the beginning of the season.

Always down. Even if it's just for a few hours.

If your dealer can't give you a realistic and reliable time frame for service, I think you need a different dealer.

Agreed on the time frame thing. I am going to call them this week, tell them the problem and make an appointment. At the same time, I am going to demand a realistic return time. My boat never sits outside and of course when it is there, its out in the open..and like I said, it was WEEKS last go round with them.

Like Mike said, always down and also straight , no point straining the bellows if you don't have to

If it is drifting down in the garage under its own weight you wont be able to hold a trim position either. Sucks it happend right at the beginning of the season. The issue could be a cylinder or a trim valve. Not sure how you would determine which one it was.

Is there not another dealer within reason?

As far as week to week storage, I store mine with the drive up. Would be just another thing to do (or forget to do) before heading down the road.

Good news here on this front (I think).

I just called Four Winns to talk to them about this problem. I told him I was very unhappy with the service department at my dealer and wondered since this would really be a Volvo problem, not a Four Winns problem, could I use another authorized Volvo service center? He told me absolutely, no problem. In fact, he even said that if it did for some reason turn out to be a Four Winns problem, to just have the service department call him directly and they will authorize the repair without any trouble.

So, I am going to hunt down (there are a few) Volvo dealers in my area and give this a shot.

I hope you get warm fuzzies from the Volvo dealer you choose. As you well know, some dealers are likely to service their purchasing customers before an outsider. I notified customers that bought the same units we sell from another dealer they would be pushed back behind our customers. This was only if they "shopped" us to get a lower price.

You may be in really good shape to find a non-FourWinns dealer. There is a certain amount of pride if they can say you brought it to them for better service.

Brent - you are right in both ways. May get the back burner and may get some satisfaction from another dealer getting my service business. You guys have already seen me complain on here about my current dealer, so this is nothing new. I spoke to Legend Marine this morning as they are an authorized service center and I am waiting on a call back.
