The biggest downfall of crownline is they thought they were better than they really are.

They wanted to compete with Cobalt. Was it an as good or better product - no.
They told their dealers that to sell Sea Ray and Four Winns as a 'stepping stone' product to Crownline. Was that a good idea? NO.

Crownline has no 'niche'. That is there problem.

They just wanted a peice of the pie - and obviously that isn't working.

Look for Rinker-line boats in your local Crownline dealers some time early 2010.

Just rumor at this point. Nothing has been publicly announced.

My friend that works at Roadrunner Trailer says they just laid off their last 12 employees.

at Crownline?

So, no more warranty support? No parts, no service?

This is a shame. Despite my choosing a FW over a Crown, they are still good boats and there are going to be a lot of people in our area with concerns over their warranty, service, parts, etc.

I am not sure if they still have a few employees laying around for this sort of thing or not (warranty and parts). All he said was they laid off the last few people...perhaps he was talking about line workers and such.

It is very sad however to see a name like Crownline go under.

For what its worth - I just tried to call Crownline. I hate internet rumors. All I got was voicemail and when I pushed 0 for the operator, it said the operator is not available.

I guess I can post this now.

Quote:
Nautic Global Group has been engaged in a process to acquire the assets of Crownline Boats for the last several weeks, the company reported in a letter to Crownline dealers on May 27. Nautic owns Rinker Boats and Godfrey Marine and is currently the fourth largest boat manufacturer in the U.S., according to the company.

"At this time, the actual purchase transaction has not been completed, and Nautic Global Group does not own Crownline," the company said in a statement. "We are working through a due diligence process with the sellers and our investors, which includes dialogue with the company and its dealer network." "We are excited at the prospect of Crownline becoming part of the NGG portfolio of brands," the company stated. "The quality of the dealer network, product and the strength of the brand in the market would create exciting synergies that would position us well as our industry recovers."

I hope Crownline comes out ok, That's what we had before we got the Four Winns. It was a great boat. When this economy turns, and it will turn, boat prices are going to go through the roof! It's going to be a seller's market for sure.
