Did I miss something? My plug is cabled to the oil drain hose. Was this not done on the '08 models?

I believe only us Mercury owners have the tethered drain plug that is attached to the oil drain hose. The Volvo's are loose.

Correct. The tether is a Merc thing.

Well, that settles it. Mercs are definately better.

Apparently I got hosed on my Merc 5.0 MPI. I just have a loose plug.

That's makes one thing to talk to my dealer about at 20 hours.

Actually, I think Merc's tether is a statement about their owners. ;) ;)

Mike,
The plug need to get put in before the boat gets in the WATER. It's not really needed in the driveway.

I am going to hell for that one!

I always put the plug I use in a cupholder inside the boat (when It's not plugging the drain hole, for the ones about to make a smartarse comment). I keep my spare in the truck. I suppose I should get a spare to leave on the boat, besides the one I use. A plastic one as a spare actually sounds like a good idea though. Are they light enough plastic to float?[/quote]

I'm pretty sure it had floatable on the package. But yeah, seems light enough it should float. I'm sure I could get something like a coozie and tie it to it. then untie when it's in.

You could always move to CA where it doesn't rain during boating season and you don't have to take your plug out all summer

Looks like an old 36' Gibson houseboat to me. My family had a newer one in 1991 on the Chesapeake. This looks like an early 80's model. Wow, it always makes me sad to see a dead boat.

I keep my boat in the garage, so its not really about the rain. Getting in and out of the boat always drips water in and some of it makes it to the bilge. Also, we wash the boat every time we put it away, so there is of course water making its way in that way too.

Just funnin with you guys.

I take my plug out too just to get what the bilge pump does not pick up as well as lower the drive to let the water drain out of it while we dry it off.
