Not even close.

I've been hiding with the newborn, (he's ready to drive the boat) and FINALLY pulled my boat to the middle of the driveway, uncovered her and looked at the K&N to see if it would fit. The K&N is round and the Volvo intake is Oval. It also looks like the clearance above the airfilter is not enough and will hit the seat when I close the engine hatch. I may tinker a bit with the other K&N sizes and adapters later this season. Looks like I might end up putting the boat in a slip for the rest of the season... YEAH!

There is another point here.

Marine engines usually have flame arresters on the induction system. There's usually NO filter because it's not needed.

There's very little (if any) dust or other contaminates on a lake or other water way. The air is clean .......so, you don't really need a "filter" per se,

The flame arrester will stop leaves and other large "things" from being sucked into the engine. It also will usually flow far more air than ANY filter (including all of K&N's filters)

There's also the small thing of USCG certification. Any time you get stopped by the "Boat Cops" the second thing they check (after the fire extinguisher) IS the USCG approved flame arrester......mainly because it's right up there on top!

(and of course......you probably should have an effective flame arrester on the engine too!) :?

Cheers,

Rick

The K&N is stamped Marine Approved and is listed as a proper flame arrestor. You can see the markings in my pix in previous posts. I still believe I'm going to get more air into my motor with a K&N. I shouldn't hear a specific sucking sound from what I have now and I do.

Yup. I'll concede it's USCG approved (K$N and their retailers also claim it's approved)

I still wonder if it actually flows more air than a standard flame arrester though. It would be easy to check by putting a vacuum gage on it and measure the vacuum of both.

It will flow more. They have spent a conciderable amount of time getting the flow paths correct for performance. I can tell you they do not spend their time doing that with a flame arrestor. You can look at one and tell the flow will be all screwed up. I run K & N on all mine.
You go to a dock and the wind is blowing and it will kick up dust and dirt. You don't think that some won't find it's way in there? lol
