21p is standard but I suppose the dealer decides or in some cases the buyer so it could be anything. Test results on this boat from FW are stated with a 21p. Its a good all around prop. OEM Volvo 21p. A local prop guy told me that all Volvo props are actually made by Solas.....not sure if thats true or not.

Even though I've always ran a 3 blade on my boat, I would think a 4 blade would work nicely esp. on the 3.0 motor. The 4cyl. just doesn't like to run at high RPM's at all. It gets whinny IMO. A four blade would cut down the RPMs and give more holeshot. I would think, never tried, a 4 blade 20p would work nicely for water sports and cruising about. All Volvo props I've seen are all cupped.

If you are fortunate enough to have a local store that deals with props, see if you can try one out. My 14x20 is a Michigan Wheel, which makes Mercury Props, with a Volvo Hub.

Sorry to dig up an old post, but I'm going to purchase a prop online today (Boss made me wait until a little more $$ was in our account). Anyone have a preferred retailer of props online?

I guess i've settled on the 14.25 21p. Anyone have a preference or issues using Michigan Wheel or Solas? I found a Michigan Wheel w/ hub kit in the size i wanted from dansdiscountprops for $110.

Lastly, how difficult is it to switch the props out with the hub kit? I'd like to swap it in the water at the dock rather then hauling my trailer all the way down to pull it out.

Welp i changed out the prop with a Michigan Wheel 14 1/4 21p unit. I can get it up to approx 38mph per the gps now, but i can easily over-rev the motor now. Any ideas?

Sounds like you are in the right ballpark. I too can over-rev to about 5000 rpm (done it.... oops!) and that sounds to be in the right speed range. Keep in mind as it was mentioned by someone else here that it is a good all-around prop. Decent hole shot and decent speed balance, but not perfect. The prop kinda favours the hole shot, and leaves the motor able to over-rev. I think this is normal for this prop with this setup.

Glad to hear it. I think after a while, or once we "modify" this prop we'll try out the 23p and see how that does. At $80 for a prop i don't mind as much as the $200 volvo OEM props.

Thanks again for everyone's help and input!
