I have a 2000 268 Vista and the only mechanical issue I see is that my trim gauge does not go to the fully down position. In the down position the out drive is completely down but the needle on the gauge is about 1/8" from the down marker. Anyone know if this is a problem or if it is something that I should leave alone?

As long as you hear the winning noise, that means the out drive is down all the way. Given the age of your boat, you might be losing your trim sender and it will need replacing. Both my senders are DOA and need replacing but I know my boat pretty well and since the trim still works regardless of what the gauges say, I will wait until the economy improves before I fix them.

There have been a viariety of threads on this topic in the forum. You may be able to adjust the trim sensor if it is bugging you, otherwise I'd be familiar with where the gauge displays when the OD is fully down (as you already have) and leave it alone.
My feeling on the gauge is that it is just a visual indicator anyway and once you get to know the sounds and feel of your boat, it's not all that necessary.

If you have a volvo outdrive, it it easy to adjust. Lower drive, loosen 2 bolts and move sensor until someone looking at gage tells you it is where you want it to read.
If the sender is old and going bad, it will quit working. Will not be a sporadic, work one day and not the next.
Hope the sender does not go out on you, they are $140 just for the sender, which I found to be outrageous! Easy fix though.

Here is a photo of sender on a volvo DPS, would look the same on a SX. Center of photo you can see the 2 bolts, loosen them and rotate a tad until you get the gage to read what you want.

As others have mentioned, I dont need to look at the gage to know where the drive is, your going to adjust drive for best performance for given load/speed. You will go by feel.
It is nice to have the gage set for others whom you have pilot the boat, you just tell them to run boat with trim at ?????

Let us know if you need any other info.

Thanks Powell. Think I am gonna leave it alone for some time and hopefully it doesn't go out completely!
