What oil are you running? I keep hearing that I should use only Merc. Synthetic which is hard to get and expensive as heck. I know I should use 25w40, but the previous owner of my boat said he just used Mobil 1. I can pick up Quicksilver 25w40 at local store which has the same FC-W rating as the Merc stuff, but not in synthetic. Just want to see what everyone here uses?

Yes I am a member there also, but wanted to check with another source if thats ok. FW does use Merc engines as well.

I'm using the 25W40 synth blend that Merc makes. But, I wouldn't be afraid to move down the "approved list" on the website and in the manual if cost were a consideration. My choice is more of a "here is Merc's most highly recommended oil, so I'll blindly follow their recommendation" than anything else.
