Has anyone ever mounted a toolbox or dryboxes under the engine hatch on one of the side bays? I am thinking about it and I am not sure how. Any pictures? Seems like a lot of storage space to use.

I was actually working on doing this and planned on completing it this weekend. I bought a cheap plastic tool box from home depot and was going to use straps to hold it down. My plan was to put it where the gen would go if it had one.

Obviously, make sure you know where any screws will go. Make sure you don't go through the hull.

I would avoid anything with batteries. Its a long shot but you don't want a shorted battery causing a spark. So think twice about storing a rechargable drill.

I have a Pelican case that is totally water proof and I velcro strap it to the side. In 3+ years no tools have rusted..!!

I found a plastic 'ammo box' that fits perfectly in-between the engine stringers. It's bright orange. It also has an o-ring seal along the top to keep out some moisture. Even with that I like to drop in a couple of silica gel packets to help aborb moisture. Thus far I've only seen a slight bit of corrosion on a couple of cheapie Harbor Fright tools.

Oh, and dry your tools after use and then hit 'em with a shot of WD-40. The WD stands for Water Deterrent and will help avoid rusting. There are better corrosion blockers, of course but for cheap tools WD-40 works fine.

I didn't. It wedges in-between the stringers tight enough to stay put. That and the weight of the tools in it. I've been through some pretty bumpy chop and it hasn't moved at all.

If I did have to mount it then I'd probably use some click to release straps (REI sporting goods sells some decent ones). You want to be able to get to the toolbox without a lot of extra hassles. So straps with the squeeze to release sort of clips seems like the best idea, not the kind with a threaded buckle sort of thing. Those are fine for things that aren't going to get moved (like batteries).
