Just curious....how much money are we talking about? If it's $10k to $15K, why not just have him bring good old Benjamins. Times have changed, I grew up taking travelers checks on vacation. Now, for the most part, they're archaic. It is extremely common to do "cash" deals with real "cash"! The way prices are going up, you'll need to open an escrow account to go out to dinner in a nice restaurant! Bottom line, no matter what each person here deems the best solution, it comes down to what you feel good with. But if you've garnered anything from all of these posts, don't trust anyone! It's a business deal, not a new friendship. Otherwise, your first post when you get back from selling your boat could be, "but he seemed so nice"!

I run a small local bank. Have him wire funds into your account. Make sure he pays any fees you might incur. Cashier Checks can be forged or stop payments placed.

I was talking to an Attorney last week. Guy sold a Heating and Air conditioning business for $170,000. The buyer had two cashier checks for the deal. One for $100,000 and another for $70,000. Handed both checks over and then called his bank to say he "lost" the $100,000 check and to stop payment on it. Now he claims he is only going to pay $70K for the business and to sue me for the rest. Nice eh?

We bought our current boat long distance. We live in SLC area Utah, and bought in Colorado springs, Co.
Once money was wired to his account, I went and got the boat.

Yes, more hurdles went buying long distance, but can be done.

With the internet, it is much easier to advertise to just about anywhere. It is also easier to get scammed. With a little common sense and using a few precautions that have already been mentioned, it will be fine.

Good luck

I sold a car (Lincoln LS) on Craigslist to a guy in Ohio for $17.5K and I sold my previous boat to a guy in Alabama on craigslist for $3.5K.

Definitely do-able but you need to be careful. Alsways meet in a public place in daylight where people are around (mall parking liot etc).

Use the anonymous email feature on C-list. Don't post your phone number. Never meet at your home...
