Well they say it happens to everyone some time, got mine out the way within a week of picking up my new H200 Frenzy. Came from Buffalo Erie basin marina area towards the Peace bridge on Lake Erie. I cut to the right of the water tower and should have stayed well left and gone round the old lighthouse (disused). Anyway at about 20 mph I am guessing as speedo dont work. Bang bang bang. The depth finder went from 25ft to 10 ft to 1.5 ft in seconds. Thankfully I only bent one blade on the prop but cut off half the skeg. Got it repaired and bought a replacement at Pier Propellers in Tonowanda he said to leave the skeg for now but he can repair it. That was early July since then I made my first rescue. a guy with his girlfriend were paddling there bayliner with oars I towed them off the Niagara River to a marina close by, that river has a hell of a current, so I went out and bought a pair of paddles hope I never need them but its something to guide you with at least.

must say what a great website this is.

Don't feel bad. That's a tricky place to come out of if you don't know where you're going. Take a look at a chart and you can see there's not much room for error. Several boats have hit up there this year, I think a couple actually sank. My brother did a good job on ours years ago there.
Congrats on the new boat !

Glad the damage was not too bad. I grew up in Western New York and know the area you mentioned.
Spent alot of time on the Niagara River and Lake Erie when I was a kid. Hopefully you stopped at
Mighty Taco and picked up an order to go, and washed it down with a cold Genny Cream Ale.

Sorry to hear about the damage but it happens to us all sooner or later, my second time out with the old 88 I bent up the prop running over a piece of wood...no drive damage and a new prop fixed it. Where I am the water is pretty deep in most areas but the water depth changes 7 feet with the tides so you do have to be careful. I carry a spare prop and the tools to replace it just in case, and also have towing insurance. Here on the North Shore we have mostly deep water but big rocks in some places, on the South Shore there are no rocks but a lot of shallow areas. It goes with the territory...

We feel for you… We have been there and done that….. As some of you may remember that we hit a rock hard and destroyed lower part of the outdrive on the first year we got our current boat (brand new)…… GPS and depth finder/alarm did not help a bit.....
These new boat needs to be “Christening” so you have just done that!
You will have a clear sail from here  … Actually my boat runs much smoother ever since the repair than it came out from factory……

I'd think a good anchor with plenty of chain on the rode along with a signal flag would be better than a couple paddles, that is of course assuming down stream is not where you want to go.

No fear I got an anchor, flares , plenty of rope, cell phone, all the necessary stuff, we took the boating course before we took delivery of the boat, just to edge on the side of safety. Although not had much success anchoring on niagara river with a danforth 4 ft chain and 100ft of rope, any ideas would be appreciated.

have just cleaned the boat and polished it for the nice long hot weekend coming

Ray

Where are you trying to anchor ? It won't hold under the Peace Bridge.

Let more line out is all I can tell you. Closer to shore maybe ? It should hold.
