Well I hit a huge rock bed broke skeg off and there is about 2 inchs left on lower unit. Would it be better to weld a new one on or get one of those black fins? Brand new prop chewed up. Now boat has a wobble is that because of the ate up prop?

Also when should you have lower unit work done. Seems to be in good shape except broken skeg

On another note since I will have to work on it now, what would be the best wat to plane boat out faster.?

18 foot horizon with 350 motor.

First thing you need to do is get the prop fixed or purchase another one right away. Excessive wobbling can cause damage to seal, bearings shafts and in some extreme circumstances even the case. After you get a good balanced prop on the boat then you can run it again and see if there are any vibrations that were'nt there pre-rocks... If there are any vibration, noises, clunks etc... then you need to have the outdrive pulled and looked at (probably rebuilt)....

the skeg can be rebuilt by a prop shop or the are bolt on skeg repair kits out there..... BTW, most of us that use our boats on a regular basis have soem sort of skeg damage.

Keep us posted on your findings.

Yep - skeg damage is a pretty common occurance... :( I hit then end of a boat ramp with mine and took a good chunk out of it. Had a new piece welded on and cleaned up, looks as good as new now. Only cost a hundred bucks or so for the repair (plus a new prop) so consider myself damned lucky.

Have a new procedure for launching at ramps I've never been to before - walk down to wasit height first before and make sure there is no trailer stop at the end of the ramp.
