Just took the boat out of the water today; 20.8 engine hours this year; up compared to 2009, up a lot compared to 2008 but about half what we used to do in the decent summers we had from 2001 to 2007.

Overall, a pretty crappy year here in SE Iowa. We only managed getting out on the Mississippi 7 times this year as it was flooded most of boating season. Fortunately, my boat made it to the Ozarks 3 times this year. But unfortunately, I only got to go with it once as my parents borrowed it twice for them to go down to the lake. It must be rough being retired. Here are my official 2010 stats:

Total Hours: 43.7 hours (my parents put 15.8 of those hours on it)
Total Fuel Consumption: 308.6 gallons
Avg Gallons/Hour: 7.1
Trailered miles: ~2,200 miles

I am real happy with the avg gallons per hour. That monster 8.1L actually moves this heavy boat down the water pretty efficiently. The FW spec sheet estimates fuel burn at cruising speed of 10 gallons per hour.

I had a few issues when I took her in for winterization. The u-joints were shot. I expected this as I was getting some vibration during hard turns later in the year. Combine that with the fact I knew it had water intrusion & they had to replace the gimbal bearing prior to me taking delivery, I pretty much knew what I was in for. Not too bad though. My mechanic still has my drive, but I brought the boat home to keep it indoors. I'll have to wait for a good weather day to get the drive back on, or he said he could hold it until Spring if I liked. Also, I slipped a belt on one of my factory Carslile tires. I don't know if this happened on my last trip out or while pulling it down to get serviced. It was a hard one to see, but fortunately we caught it in time. Both my boat mechanic and my auto mechanic recommended Goodyear Marathons, so that is what I will most likely go with this winter.

Hopefully next year the Mississippi cooperates more with the recreational boaters here in SE Iowa. Until then, I have all winter to clean, wax and tinker.

I have remember that I had done seven times boating this year. This is not a full stop it will increase year by year. Recently I had done Boating in Pattaya, Thailand. It was very nice place for boating and sky diving.

A very ordinary summer here in Melbourne and plenty of other distractions - only put on 15 hours so far. Hoping to get out again before the season finishes at the end of April.

I only put 85 hours on during the 2010 boating season. My boat burns 30 gallons of gas per hour. Does that mean.....

Time with the engine running we probably average about 50 hours per year....but actual time on the boat is easily triple that or more. It's not unusual to make a 30 minute run to a favorite anchorage, hang there for several hours and then head back to the marina. I can think of plenty of days where we spent 8 hours on the water but only ran the engines for an hour of it.

we the same, half an hour to reach "meeting place" at the hook for hours and half an hour back to the marina, means 2 hours a week end, june had some bad weather issues, roughly 60 hours from March to October. here's a picture of our usual meeting place the so called "bad horse rock" (see the rock)

And in winter some ten hours on the small tender rubber boat with electric engine
