Was going to drag the boat to the dealer until my buddy told me about a mobile guy that would come to the house and do it, he is also Volvo certified which was cool, Lubed the gimble, the drive shaft, changed the drive oil, all filters, engine oil volvo syn 30wt, fogged the engine, pulled all drian plugs and opened the lower hoses, treated the fuel and checked over the engine and bellows, changed the impeller for 450 thought it was a good deal, especially since I didn't have to tow it and hour each way to the dealer.

$450 sure is a steep price just to have a boat winterized. Have you ever considered doing it yourself? Id say we spent $40-50 to winterize our boat. That includes buying the fogging oil, engine oil+filter, and drive oil+gaskets needed for that.

$450 including the impeller change sounds about right to me. Just had the same work done for about the same price. Wish I could do it myself, but I don't trust my mechanical abilities enough. Glad I changed the impeller. It was probably the original in my 2005 (new to me last November). It was already starting to break apart--missing all or part of about 6 fins. Yikes! You can bet I will be changing it religiously every 3 years from now on. That was a bad day on the lake waiting to happen.

I think $450 is a fair price. Not a steal, but definitely fair considering he came to you. When you consider the cost of the filters, antifreeze, impeller, fuel stabilizer, engine and drive oil, and the value of watching football on a Sunday rather than crawling around your engine compartment, it's well worth it, IMHO.

Not a bad price, I do mine and have for the past 8 years and it costs me close to 100 in parts/supplies alone, including the -100 antifreeze which is the most expensive but protects better...and it takes the better part of 3 hrs so figure what your time is worth...

Sounds about right to me based on what our marina charges. Like others said, learn to do the bulk of the work yourself and you'll save a few hundred. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person in the world but I managed to get my boat fully winterized on my own this year....with the exception of pulling the outdrive. Not quite ready to take that step yet...best left to the pros for now. We have a twin engine and doing it myself easily saved me $300 or so, if not more.

Actually pulling it is easy, if you build a stand (I built one out of 2x6s and put casters under it so I can wheel it around into the garage)....
Installing it is a bit tricky because you need to keep the driveshaft lined up and the ujoints as straight as you can, so the driveshaft will go straight through the gimble bearing and into the coupler. Eventually you will get your nerve up and do it. I got tired of paying what was typical for the outdrive service each year and have been doing it for 4 seasons now, and the good thing is if I do find a problem when I remove it, I can get the work done over the winter, not in the spring rush.....

Penta Gxi '07 and above are supposed to have sealed gimbal bearings tho... theres no way to lube them... only replace...

I bought a home last summer, there is a shallow well system. Unfortunately, I did not do what it takes to do a lot of research for the winter. This spring, I tried to fire pump / well, no water came out - but, it sounds like the pump is still pumping. I do not know all the parts are called, but some tanks and between the pipe / cast iron housing ranking points out of the wells.
