Looking to upgrade my ancher to a plow type as soon as I pull my 258 out of storage.

Was wondering what options were available to me.

Going windlass would be great but cost are a bit high.

Where is the best place to shop?

What is it you call that piece that attaces to the nose of the boat and holds the anchor in place while under way?

Looking for something that will work nice and wont break the bank.

Thanks for the help

"What is it you call that piece that attaces to the nose of the boat and holds the anchor in place while under way?" - Would you be thinking anchor pulpit?

Mike.

Anchor pulpit....or perhaps you are referring to an anchor roller?

The West Marine catalog has some good information on which anchor may work best for your boating location. They are not all created equal. One that works great in a sandy bottom is not always the best in a rocky bottom etc...

Its the stock 15lb anchor from my 268 Vista.

You'll also need this...

Image

Its shown on the Four Winns parts site as an anchor chute, part # 031-1046. Not sure if it will fit your boat or not, that is the part shown for my '04 268.

Wish I could help more. I will tell you having this set up is a night and day difference to anchoring with my 225 Sundowner.

Looking to get one of these for the next boating season but it does not fit in the anchor compartment :(.

Bottoms are pretty much mud and weeds and anchor i have now really does nothing for me.

Just need to find the proper setup and proper way to attach the anchor chute securely.

Will make the trip to Burlington VT west marine to stock up while stocks are a plenty. Last year once the season started store was empty.:(

When I had my 99 258, i wanted to do the same thing with the anchor roller. I looked into allot of them and none of them would work for a 258 the way the anchor locker is set up. I called four winns and sure enough they have/had one for the 258. It bolts on below the rub rail on the very tip of the hull.

I bought it then sold the boat. (I think there is a theme here). I ended up selling it on eBay.

I seem to remember it being kinda pricey.

Hi

A good place to shop for me is Defender.com There prices are fairly good, great customer service. Some places are cheaper but the have every thing you could want!!! Plus every month they put out a sales flyer.

I installed a windlass on my last boat & this spring I will be adding one to my new one. Money is always a problem!!! It should not cost you more than $625.00

http://www.boatersland.com/v700g.html

Plus, another $70 to 100.00 for wire, connectors, sealant.......... Some things you might have on hand. Be sure to use marine grade wire, it is tinned!!!!

Go to Lewmar.com, they have a "how-to" video.

The Fortress anchors are cheaper, by a lot, not as good, BUT more BANG for your buck!!!

Good luck
Paul
