I think it depends on each individual boat!
Our boat has a one piece snap in carpet that starts at the cabin entrance and goes all the way to the transom door...
1.) It does depend on your particular boat, where you do your boating, and how you use your boat. If you are a fisherman, or crabber, then
non skid makes the most sense. For our style of boating, non skid in the cockpit is not needed at all. Although there was one time last
summer the dog did not make it to the swimplatform, and peed on the carpet. Non skid would have been an easier clean up then.
2.) One piece of carpet ?

Holy crap. Ours is in 4 pieces, divided at the engine hatch so the hatch can be lifted without
moving any of the carpet. Smaller pieces make it easier to clean as well. Start cuttin' millhaven !
