OK...who's started getting their boats ready for spring? Had my outdrives serviced last week, have a new shower sump pump waiting to be installed, and bought a new Sony head unit this afternoon. Let the warm weather begin!

Weather has been really nice here last couple weeks, replaced the impeller, fuel filter, took the props off to get them fixed up (damn floating logs) and put a dimmer on the gauge lights last week.

Now it will probably snow next week :)

Yep....started on Saturday. Had some water pool up on the shrink wrap so I pumped it off, have just about everything I need to get'er ready. New zincs bought, outdrive oil bought, filters bought, new high water alarm bought, new grounding strap bought, bottom paint bought...
Just have to pull the props, change the oils/filters, (don't want to commission the water systems just yet), but I have spring fever!

Hey Winedown.........which Sony head unit did you go with? I have been out looking for an amp and a replacement head unit for our boat.

Aesthetically, I'm noticing the Sony units look more appealing than some of the other manufactures. Not saying that looks are the most important factor in selecting a replacement unit but the lighted colors and clarity of the display on the Sony's look good.

Mike.

When you get an answer, I'd interested also. I will be able to get away with my paint for this year, but it will need to be done next year.

I repainted my DP outdrive a few years ago.
Abbreviated version.
1.) Strip/sand/grind old paint and corrosion off drive.
2.) Wipe down entire drive with solvent.
3.) Apply Primer to drive , 2 to 3 coats. VP blue/gray if you like http://www.marinepartsexpress.com:8080/ ... Id=1141562
I did not use this primer. Just bought yellow zinc chromate primer.
3.) Once dry, 2 to 3 coats Volvo Outdrive Paint.
** Silver/Grey for DPS drives http://www.marinepartsexpress.com:8080/ ... Id=3851220
** Silver for SX drives http://www.marinepartsexpress.com:8080/ ... Id=3851219
4.) Spray 2 coats of clear-cote http://www.marinepartsexpress.com:8080/ ... tId=827502

Here is what it looked like when done.

Thanks Cap'n. I will forward this to my boat tech as this is a must do this season. I have been putting this off way too long.

Technically, yes. But most everything accomplished thus far has been piddling around. I've got the interior in pretty good shape. All the real work is yet to come now that the weather should start becoming more cooperative.

I went with the Sony DSX-S100. It's the kind that can store an iPod inside of it (or pretty much any USB music device including just a flash drive with MP3 files on it) and then you can control the iPod using the front panel on the stereo. I purchased the car audio version vs. the marine version ($60 difference in price). It has identical hook-ups as my previous Sony and still has the input for the helm remote. Will it last as long as the marine version?? I'll let you know in a few years. But I can tell you this. The stereo I'm replacing is a car unit that's been in there for a long, long time and it was working just fine. If it hadn't been a pre-aux input model I'd still be using it.

About one weekend for painting/ drying time. About 4 hours of prep work removing all the old paint and corrosion as well
as taping off stuff that did not need paint on it.
