I finally got my exhaust quiet. The fix was remarkably simple. The shop set the diverter to the prop and then used expanding spray foam to seal the black tube to the side ports.

Today was my first day on the water with it like this and the change is so noticeable. The boat was so nice and quiet, you could cruise below planing speed and have a conversation without having to scream. What was weird is how much more I can hear from the engine now. I'm going to have to use to a whole new set of noises from the engine and outdrive. Darn thing was so loud before I couldn't never hear these things.

Mike,
Were the thru-hulls muffled at all?? Or are they just straight-through?? Reason I ask is I'm fixing to add thru-hulls to mine, they won't be side-exit, transom, under the platform, with muffled tips. I had a Chaparral Villian with T/H, no platform but they were muffled tips, it was not all that loud.

Obviously our boat has the side thru hull exhaust, but Im surprised how quite it is in the boat while doing 50+mph. Outside the boat it sounds bad ass, but cant really here it. More wind noise than anything.

Mine are through the side like Mike's and do not have muffled tips. My friend's 2001 H260 are through the transom with muffled tips. It is noticably quieter riding in his boat at cruising speed with the captain's call on than mine. Note our boats have the same engine/drive setup. So based on that simple comparison, I would say the through side exhausts are louder inside the boat than the through transom exhausts.

I am 90% sure that the Captails Choice Thru-Hulls are not muffled.

No, I don't think there was any muffler at the tip.

From checking the Corsa website they do offer a few other diverter options that may work better.

The transom thru hulls definitely are quieter inside the boat...the noise is muffled by the integrated platform in my opinion. Even with the exhaust in quiet mode - it's still louder than normal. I don't boat very far before i'm where i need to be so it's not a big issue for me. I can't hear much of anything anyway.

Actually, I bet it's about the same tip as mine, which is muffled. This is the CAD drawing of the tip that shows the baffles (those X things) in there. Of course mine is "silent choice" so I'm not sure if that's the same or not.

Do you know what type of foam they used to spray in there? I suppose you could use something like "great stuff" but I'm not sure how well that would hold up over time. I would assume there is a better/more durable option out there.

I'll have to take another look. It just didn't sound muffled at all.

Oh definitely, not a permanent solution but one easily repeated if necessary.

To bad it was SO loud. I love the pipes on our boat, sounds awesome when you are cruising across the lake. However, while inside the boat its almost undetected at all. Sorry you had bad luck with yours.

I can hardly hear my exhaust unless I am going under a bridge or pulling up to the marina how weird! Maybe my system isn't working correctly. I know if I hit the button for silent choice she gets really quiet and if I hit it again you can hear it a little sort of a low pitch growl but once on plane you don't really hear much. My boat is a 2008 H220SS and it does say corsa on it. I wish it would sound more like my mustang with the x-pipe and flowmasters on it but I guess that would get old after a while. 8) Joe in Miami

Did they unhook the Captains Call at the switch or leave everything in place? I am curious to know what kind of foam they used, I would like to do this to my SL but I am worried about any potential heat setting the foam on fire. My boat is LOUD even with the Call switched off, I think there is a valve not sealing correctly.

The newer boats with catalytic converters (2010+ or so) are not as loud as the older boats, the converters quiet them down quite a bit, your '08 most likely doesnt have converters but it may have mufflers.. There are also some with mufflers and some with straight through on the older boats. I have been on a quite a few and some are loud as hell and some arent bad, I'm sure where the tips are makes a difference inside the boat as well.

I was in a 2011 26' bbowrider with a 430hp 8.2 merc (with converters) and it was way quieter than I expected even with it wide open at 60+mph. I could easily live with it, so could the people in my marina :)

They set the solenoid/switch to the position open to the throttle and then unhooked the wire but yeah everything is intact and could be operational in about 45mins if I wanted to.

He just called it spray foam. I would assume you could check on the bottle for whether or not it's flammable.

I would actually like my captains call to make the exhaust much louder and shut it off totally if I want it off. I guess you are correct with the mufflers because they are marked Corsa. The system looks nice and I guess it makes the boat sound better but if my boat didn't come with them already I would never spend the money on them.
