Just a question, how many of you actually use the engine kill switch safety lanyard the way it's intended to be used. I'm debating enforcing the rule...but it's a pain in the a$$ for me to wear.

Thoughts???

I typically don't unless I'm solo on the boat.

+1, but not bad to re-consider, maybe depending on conditions?

I use them on my snowmobiles. Boats? No, only if I was racing them.

Now, with my family on-board and my kid wanting to learn to drive the boat, it may truly be time to reconsider and start teaching him the correct way.....

When I'm solo or bad weather. If I'm fishing (drifting) then no.

Only if I'm going to be up on plane, just putting around I dont use it. I'd hate to get thrown out and have 7000lbs going 30mph ram someone on a crowded lake. If my kids were below that would suck as well, figure if I got tossed out then anyone sitting near the throttle would get tossed out as well.

Wearing the kill switch is required in Nevada except when docking. Is it necessary for safe boating, NO. Is it another way for an enforcement to earn money by giving tickets, YES. I have endangered my boat several times by reaching for something just a little too far and accidentally killing the engine.

I can't imagine clipping and unclipping that thing every time I step away from the helm. I can see more harm in accidentally killing the engine around a dock or slip. I never wear it.
