Here's my question.....how cold should I expect the A/C to hold the cabin temp given the following? Boat is a Vista 298, A/C is 10,000 BTU, air temp is 95, humidity is somewhere around 60%, and water temp is roughly 85 degrees. Right now the cabin is at 81 with the A/C having been on all day long. That seems warm to me. I would expect something in the low to mid 70s....but on a hot day with warm sea water, maybe it can't do much more than 15 degrees below outside temp. Any ideas?

Had that issue with my '04 268. Thought the solid blue hull sides hurt, so I upgraded to an 8k unit in the new series from Cruisair. Seems to have helped a lot!

Right now our water temp is right about 90 degrees. The outside temps are 100-105. Our cabin gets down to about 78-80 degrees.....pretty hot summer here. Most ac units are doing good to have a 20 degree difference from outside ambient temps.

Me and two of my daughters have been staying on the boat full-time in a covered slip ever since school let out (with the exception of a two week vacation). It has been mostly in the low to mid-90s every day and I keep the cabin around 73 to 74. I find that I have to clean the filter once a week or else it won't cool down as much. Also, I had the AC guy top off the freon last year and my fan runs continuous even after the AC compressor shuts off.

10,000 BTU should be fine for a 298 cabin in this heat. We have a 10K BTU A/C in our boat, which is similar in size to the 298, and we have found we need to clean the filters at least once per month to keep it working well. We have had no problems keeping the cabin at 71 degrees with 80 degree water temp, and 90+ outside temp. If it's not the filters , nor is it freezing up, then you may need a freon re-charge.

Mine cools us down fine...when it's working. It went out sometime in the middle of the night Sunday evening. The pan was full of water.

I'm thinking I've read on here that the pan runs to the shower sump pump. If that's correct, sounds like I may have a clogged tube running to the pump. Can anyone confiirm I'm on the right track, or provide any other trouble shooting thoughts. Thanks

I too have a 298 (2002) and my AC drain hose does not run to the shower sump (wish it did) - there does not appear to an easy means to route to the shower sump. It appears to go through the engine bulkhead on the port side and to the bilge. The hose however is not in the open within the bilge - it is likely under the port side panels that cover the stringers next to the batteries. The water then runs along the stringer to the weep holes in the far back of the bilge.

I was reading the Cruisair manual and they do not recommend the condensate tube running to the bilge. See page 6: http://dometic.com/FileOrganizer/1-inte ... ration.pdf They say it should run to a sump pump. During conditions of high humidity, condensate may be produced at a rate of 1/2 gallon per hour. I can't believe Four Winns would ever run them to the bilge because of this.

Hey Steve, if you get this in time, maybe you can check your routing tonight when you're out there. Just don't do it while the steaks are cooking!

Then what is 5000btu? I would love to upgrade to an 8 or 10k unit. We want the cabin to be a walk in cooler though......
But not going to spend the money. Just may only boat spring and fall.

Ok, much to my surprise, the AC condensate line does not drain into the shower sump. It does drain into the bilge on my boat. I really thought it did but I was wrong.

I am thinking I may change the routing of the AC condensate line into my sump pump. There is available inlets and this has to be better than running it into the bilge?!?!
