Stern anchor should be tied to the cleat on the windward side of the boat, so it holds the boat in place and does not move leeward. Unless of course you are facing directly into the wind, and the wind direction never changes.

Makes sense when not facing into the wind. I was concerned that the swinging action, when facing directly into the wind, might cause the rope to get caught up in the outdrive. Especially if you throw it out 5 to 7 feet.

I'll either not face directly into the wind or if I am, I'll drop anchor straight down.
