2x 4.3volvo in a 298.

Both are consuming oil, approx .5 liter for 6hours cruising.
I dont see smoke. Always run it with Full Syntech Volvo SAE30.

Im pretty sure the ring are not doing a good job. There is no leak.

Question ; Mercuiser and Volvo are both GM block. Why Mercruiser required 25w40 and volco SAE30 ?

I my idea SAE30 is very liquid during a hot day at 4000RPM. If I put 25w40 instead what do you think ?
Im pretty sure it better to add .5liter per week end , what do you think ?
thanks

"Volvo" branded 30w synthetic will soon not be availavble. They have switched to 10W40 synthetic.

So if you want to change, now is a good time. But the Merc oil will not help your oil consumption, there is another issue that you are going through that much oil. I have put over 100 hours on my 4.3L engines, and have not even used .5 liter on either engine. Have a compression check done on both engines first.
